I noticed after I switched to VFP9 that when I USE a table from the IDE command window, the record number and record count don't appear at the bottom of the screen in the tooltip bar like they do in VFP8 and earlier versions. I never realized now much I depended on that.

Is there a configuration setting or something I'm missing?

Hi Mike,

The two settings that affect the display of that information are SET TALK and SET NOTIFY [CURSOR] Both of these default to ON, so that shouldn't be your problem out of the box, but you might want to check them.

One other thing I have found is that certain tools (the Code Reference Tool is one) use the Status Bar via SET MESSAGE TO, but forget to shut it off when you move focus to another window (like a BROWSE).

Try SET MESSAGE TO in the Command Window when the BROWSE has focus and see of the stats come back.

Rick,

You get the star! SET MESSAGE TO is what it was. Maybe it's the task pane manager or something in my startup that does it. I will add SET MESSAGE TO as the last line in my VFP startup program.

Thanks!

Rick:

I read your blog and wanted to post the following there, but could not create an account since there was no way to submit my info on your 'Create an Account' page.

"Bravo on your 'do whatever it takes.' If everybody had the 'do whatever it takes' attitude, the whole world would run smoother, and guess what, everybody would benefit, even to the extend of putting more money in their pockets."

Also, your blog inserted a CR and LF after every word in your blog, making it kind of hard to read.

Internet Exploder 5.

I do not "see" the CR & LF. I just know that they are there since every single word is on its own individual line (LF) and flushed left (CR).

In NS some of the paragraphs are written one on top of the other, but the words themselves are not on individual lines.

Don't have any other browser to check, nor can I get any other to check.e

That is a real old version of IE and I am not sure the Blogger templates support this version (something I will have to check into). I don't have a copy on any machine to even test it out, but I have tested the blog in IE 6, FireFox, Opera, and Mozilla.

It does not render properly in Netscape 4.7, but I figure this is also too old to be worried about.

Why can't you install one of the current browsers? Does your employer have rules about this? At least cost is not the issues since they are all free.

Rick,

I also really enjoy your blog. It appears that the number of blogs with VFP-related information in them have really started to grow in the last year. If the trend continues, this could actually increase VFP's visibility slightly.

(I don't see the CRLFs)

Likewise Craig, the information in your blog has been excellent. I like how you posted the techniques to access the various email technologies. Will you also be posting how to read emails and attachments? These are questions I see frequently posted on the forums.

Rick:

Have latest browsers that will install on these machines.

Not cost effective to keep replacing current working systems just to support latest browsers. Just too many issues concerning conversions of working programs and data.

Yes, the entries will continue until a very thorough examination of Email and VFP has been done. Receiving will be Part 2. And, thank you for the compliment regarding the content.

That's the missing piece I have been looking for. The case of the disappearing status messages is solved.
