keepingbusy,

an old trick for Win98/VFP8 was to be sure that GDIPLUS.DLL was in C:\WINDOWS folder.

TheSofty

A required .DLL file, GDIPLUS.DLL, was not found

I have a machine here working under windows 98, and had the same message.

U can searching on the internet for the gdiplus.dll and download it to the vfp 9 folder, and then it works.

Keepingbusy,

The error comes on W98, solution: copy and paste the GDIPLUS.DLL (present on the pc when you have installed previous VFP versions) into the directory where you have installed VFP9.

Koen

Have to say, that had I known about the file, I would have copied it over! (Thanks for the advice anyway)

The .dll was already present in the folder and still didn't work but thank you anyway

koenpillar

That's the info I was looking for and I was able to resolve the issue by copying the .dll file into c:\windows and VFP9 it works perfectly (Thanks again)

Kindest regards

I just visited the MS site to download the 9.0 Beta and got an error that the page can not be found. Have they disabled the Beta download?

Mike,

Nope - I still get "This page cannont be displayed. The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings."

Steve

I'm not sure what the problem is, I can get to it. Maybe someone else can confirm (or not) the problem.

Is the release of VFP 9 still set for September 29, 2004?

Although I'm still plodding along with good old VFP 6, I need to get a new copy of VFP 8 in a couple weeks in order to synchronize with other partners using VFP 8. The problem is that I'd hate to miss out on getting version 9. I know in years past that if a person bought a version just before the release of the next, there was a special deal or provision to upgrade or get the new release at little or no extra cost. Does anyone know if that's still done? I'd hate to buy a version just before it's replaced...

thanks, dbMark

While the VFP 9.0 release is expected during this year's VFP DevCon - September 29 - October 3 ( of course this is not for sure. If the beta testers find a "major" problem shortly before this time or MS simply decides the timing isn't right, there may be a delay. It is unlikely it will be released before then.

Also, remember that a release date usually means that it was released to manufacturing (RTM), and while it may be available for downloading from the MS subscription site shortly after this, it may not be in retail channels for another 6-8 weeks (based on historic experience).

Rick

Microsoft has never publically pegged a date for release, nor have they said it will be released at DevCon. The official word is that it will be released this fall and DevCon is the official release announcement. That doesn't mean release will occur at that time. Microsoft has done release announcements in the past, but not released until after that.

One other thing to keep in mind. In Microsoft speak, release means "Release to Manufacturing" (RTM). This means that the bits are ready to go. Shortly after, you'll be able to download from MSDN subscriber downloads (assuming you have an MSDN subscription). It will take 6-8 weeks after RTM for the CDs to be made and packaged. Then it is "shipping", which means you can buy the CD from your favorite reseller.

I've downloaded Visual FoxPro 9 beta and would like to install it to check it out on a Windows Millennium workstation, even though not supported officially. It's the one I have lots of my xBase files on. I looked on my Windows XP and saw that there were 2 GdiPlus.dll files! Which do I use? Does it make a difference?

Directories in C:\Windows\WinSxS:

x86_Microsoft.Windows.GdiPlus_6595b64144ccf1df_1.0.0.0_x-ww_8d353f13
07/16/2003 12:14 PM - 1,700,352 bytes
MS GDI+ 5.1.3097.0

MS GDI+ 5.1.3101.0

You should use the GDI+ DLL for ME! Not one from XP - otherwise you may create problems for yourself, totally unrelated to VFP!

Rick

Update for those Windows 98 or Me users who are running VFP9beta: Last night Microsoft released a security update for GDI+ #MS04-028 - Buffer Overrun in JPEG Processing (GDI+) Could Allow Code Execution (833987). I decided to check my August 24 link above to see if a new GdiPlus.dll file was available there too. Surprise, when I clicked on the GDI+ RTM link I got a so sorry message The download you requested is unavailable ... try the "Search for a Download" area on the Download Center home page.

So here is the new Platform SDK Redistributable: GDI+ gdiplus_dnld.exe dated 09/14/2004 and GDI+ version 3102.1360 where gdiplus.dll is 1,645,320 bytes dated 05/04/2004 11:53a:

Here is the new GDI+ detection tool gdidettool.exe to test for vulnerable Microsoft applications (obviously it can't check third party software) dated 09/14/2004:

Note these installation instructions in the accompanying redist.txt:

- For Windows XP use the system-supplied gdiplus.dll. Do not install a new gdiplus.dll over the system-supplied version (it will fail due to Windows File Protection).

- For Windows 2000, Windows Millennium Edition, Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 98, install gdiplus.dll into the private directory of the application not into the system directory.

Does anyone know where the setup wizard for distribution disks has gone in this version?

Lee....

There hasn't been a Setup Wizard for several versions now. Instead, you use the Installshield Express, Special Edition. It is a separate download on the same page as the beta download.
