Hi. We have a client using a vantage ring generator associated with a phone in a plant on an old nortel system

We are trying to get it to work with Extension 302, but can't seem to figure out what we need to do.

The phone itself is a digital phone, and the ring generator is using a seperate 2 pair.

We had it plugged into an analog port, but as soon as the connection is made the ring generator bell starts going off, and can't seem to find what settings are required so it works correctly.

My initial thought was to treat the ring generator as a separate analog extension, and create a hunt group with the digital extension. A little investigation indicates we might have to bridge the ring generator with the phone, but we haven't had to do that before some i'm uncertain on how that works.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Thank-you

Was the vantage ring generator controlled by a relay, and not ringing voltage on the old nortel system? Can you provide a like to the equipment, as I don't find anything googling "vantage ring generator

I received more info it's an NORTEL NT0B17AB auxiliary ringing generator. Connected through a bix panel to the Nortel PBX.

You need a 1uF/200V non polarized capacitor serialized with the TIP or RING line to block the DC voltage from the line.

The only thing I could find was an eBay auction in Spanish, but the picture included has the connection diagram. This appears to just be a 90VAC ringing supply, and uses a contact closure from the control unit to trigger it. It you're really married to using this setup, you would need something like a Viking LDB-3 relay.

Connect the analog station from the IPO to the Viking terminals 1 and 2, 7 and 8 go to the power supply control leads, then just twin the analog station with Ext. 302

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll see what i can do.

Oef, a expansive solution for a simple problem.
I would pick a old POTs phone with a real bell in it and take the capacitor out and use it.
