I just started a new job and they have asked me to take some prerecorded announcements and put them in our vector. My problem is, when I open VAM, I cannot copy anything to or from the VAL board. I connect to the VAL just fine and can see all the announcements, but when I try to copy to or from the board I get this error:

192.168.1.16 : FTP connection to VAL board failed Click View Logs button to see detail logs

And this is what the log says:

Thu Feb 25 07:51:55 EST 2010 **Task: Copy Announcement Files,Task ID: 9** Connection to VAL retrieved from pool.
Thu Feb 25 07:51:55 EST 2010 **Task: Copy Announcement Files,Task ID: 9** Announcement property information for VAL:01A02 has been updated.

Couple of key things to know:
System - G3 V12 and S8500
PBX IP - 128.1.35.220
VAL IP - 192.168.1.16

I have tried to FTP to this IP and of course I cannot connect. I try changing my ip address to 192.168.1.101 (same subnet and gateway) and still cannot connect via FTP.

Let me know if you need any additional information!

Thanks!
Brian

As you can see, you're running V12. The log complains that you can't use SFTP to do the upload because you're at a rev below R13.

You'll have to upgrade.

In the meantime you'll need to copy the files manually through a phone using the record announcements access code.

Carpe dialem! (Seize the line!)

check your settings in VAL to ensure that you do not have the file transfer method set to use SFTP, uncheck it and that should solve your problem.

I think you're correct about not being able to SFTP into the VAL, but you should be able to FTP into it.

What version of VAM are you using? I remember a previous version that we used had the option to turn SFTP on and off. You should check the configuration settings and see if you can find a checkbox that is turning SFTP on and turn it off.

See if that resolves your issue.

Just realized you stated you don't see where to change it. In the version we have now, it's under System | File Transfer Connections.

You have to make sure that all of the boards are moved to the right side of the selection to "Non SFTP Enabled Boards"

In version 3.1 this option should be under the Voice System Properties dialog box.

There is a Use SFTP option. Try unchecking this box.

Does anyone know if the IP ADDRESS needs to be in the same range as the PBX.

For example - PBX IP - 128.1.35.220
VAL IP - 192.168.1.16

If i need to change the IP ADDRESS for the VAL, how do i do it. When i us the command "ch ip-int 01a02" it greys out the IP ADDRESS so i can't change it in ASA.

We have VAL boards in different subnets: 10.100 and 10.102 so I don't think that matters.

I'm not a networking person, so I really don't have a lot of experience here. Acutally trying to study for my CCNA right now.

I think the 192.168 is causing the issue though. I'm assuming you are connected at the office doing this, not at home, since most personal home routers use the 192.168 subnet as a default so it woudn't get past your home router.

What happens if you ping the 192.168 from your computer? Have you tried a trace route from your computer to see where it fails?

I also believe you can change the IP address using the change node-name command. But I have no idea what it will do to the board, your connection, the announcements on the board. So if you change it I don't know what, if anything will happen to your announcement, so you're on your own here.

I am at work working on this and when I do a ping and tracert i get no respose. They both time out.

I think we are on the right path, but I dont want to change the ip if its going to "kill" the board and/or the annoucements.

Spoke with my coworker who is the VAM and VAL guru.

He said changing the IP address in node-name would not do anything to the announcements.

Do you have a BP or support with Avaya? They should be able to confirm this for you.

Of course, your new IP Address needs to be assigned by whoever is responsible for your network as it needs to be static and not duplicate any other assignable address.

Another thing to look at is what your CLAN IP Address are as an example. I bet none of them are 192.168 unless you have a CMS directly cross-connected to one of them.

not sure if you've tried this or not... can't hurt though...

disable the filexfer for the val card and then enable the filexfer and make sure that secure is n.

enable filexfer is how I configure the login and password along with the val card's board address on my 5.1.2 system so make sure you know what the login and password you want to use is as well as the board address of the val card.

just saw that you couldn't ping the val card. You should be able to, if you can't ping it you wont be able to ftp to it.

stupid question, but are you sure the val card is actually plugged into the network and the lan link is up?

PeteBull - Not a dumb question at all. Now that you say that, I will go over to the other building and check it out.

That’s the bad thing about not having it in the same office! You don’t see your equipment often enough. While I’m over there I think I'll give it a hug and pat it on the back and tell it how much it means to me! :)

Ok....I got it working so i can ping it! The way i got it to work is by pulling the board and reseating it, I also unplugged the network cable and reseated it.

One or a combination of the two worked.

Now i have a new problem :)

I think its a format problem, but im sure one of you guys can tell me real quick.
