Well, that just posed more questions than answers.

Some Key Points.
1) Pay for Avaya Tech Support
2) Pay for 6.x Upgrades.
3) Simplified licences - yeah right
4) Minimum accreditaion to resell and install IP Office.

Brain is awash with questions I didnt get a chance to ask....

It's shoot first ask questions later with Avaya Tom, they probably have not thought that far ahead to see what knock on effect their money grabbing has :)

Also that sub 20 pricing is a joke, it still costs more than twice what the competition can offer :)

You have to be product authorised to buy kit (2x APSS). If you are PA (but not SME Expert) then support will go though distribution, you will need to have purchased Avaya support hours if the case has to be escalated to Avaya.

If you are SME Expert then you have the choice to either go through distribution or direct to Avaya support, but again whenever Avaya are involved then you will need to have bought support hours.

And yes, disty tech support has to deal with lots of muppet resellers. Whether this will improve the situation remains to be seen.

If the disti is a SME expert then there is no problem anymore.
The disti with tech support do filter those muppet questions and deal with the real problems with Avaya.

The resellers who will be SME Experts are generally ones who do not need much disty support, so not much will change there. Although anyone who hasn't dealt with Avaya since moving to the global Backbone model may be in for a shock when they start going direct!

The requirements for product authorisation are not very taxing, so I don't see the number of muppets decreasing. Disty tech support already do a lot of filtering out of the dross which isn't really what they are there for.

They can be PA to sell the kit, which just needs 2x APSS. To be PA to sell and implement you will need an APIA as well. This is in the Avaya Connect presentation (follow the link to the Scansource website above).

But if i and a college both have APSS and ACSS then it is not enough ?

Having ACSS is holding a PA.

I'm so glad I didn't go. It just makes everyone angry and more confused than when they went in.

I wonder how long it will be before Avaya realised they've cocked up. Like the V5 licensing where the teleworker didn't include a Softphone license!

who knows, i just wish they would settle on a licensing scheme. seen changes now in at least the last 3 major releases.

if they settle with the new way and don't change it in R7 i'll be a bit happier.

Man.. I've gotten a headache from reading all of these posts regarding what Avaya is doing. I went from working for a disti to the customer, and I have never called tech support, so that part really isn't a bother. I am just not happy about paying to upgrade. Is this for every release of 6.x and forward, or just to get to r6?

Right now only for upgrading an ip500
The ip500v2 shall need a license too for going from 6 to 7

But there is also a license for 6 till release 10.
That license is not that expensive to be honest (if it is a big one)

i understood also that 6.0 to 6.1 will also require payment? or am i getting that message wrong?

Yes you do.
It is going to be the same as with the CM
You can always do minor upgrades for free.
Only the mayor releases require a license
