Well, that just posed more questions than answers.

Some Key Points.
1) Pay for Avaya Tech Support
2) Pay for 6.x Upgrades.
3) Simplified licences - yeah right
4) Minimum accreditaion to resell and install IP Office.

Brain is awash with questions I didnt get a chance to ask....

I was a bit peeved we didnt see more technical demos and discussion as the presentaion centred around this Nazi approach to YOU WILL COMPLY and YOU WILL PAY

The payment for support and upgrades is now just a tax on installers. We all now have to adjust our business models to pass this cost onto customers, so negating any benefits in cost savings on hardware.

Look at this from the distributor and vendor perspective. They have been providing 'free' support on all IPO systems for years, it's just not sustainable.

You will have to pay for support regardless of your accreditation level, but SME Expert resellers have the option of going direct to Tier 3.

No idea about Mitel, but Shoretel operate a similar model (each end user must have a support contract in place).

2x APSS
1x APIA
1x ACSS
Services Assesment??? (no idea what this is)

What is APIA ????

APSS is no problem
ACSS will be done shortly
But APIA is not mentioned on avaya learning.

ACS IP Office or is it ACSS :)

I think APIA is kinda like ACA - do the 5 day course then the online exam.

I have this info in an email, I'll try and find where it came from .

No real objection to paying for support, but I don't think it was particularly well presented.

however reducing the 3 yr warranty to one year and offering a payment for an extended warranty, charging for support and charging for upgrades is possibly a little bit much all in one hit

2x APSS, 2xACSS and an exam (remote)

I think the reference I made to APIA is out of date, I just got sent the same doc as linked above and it says 2x APSS and 2x ACSS. Also from the same doc:

"No Cost GSS Remote Support
Global Support Services (GSS) provides 24/7 support for new implementations, major
upgrades, and major additions in the Unified Communications and Contact Center product
families."

SME Experts get free implementation support, not maintenance support. Your mileage may vary.

Scratch my last comment about APIA, apparently the presentation that came from is newer than the PDF linked above, so the requirements are as I said originally. No other info about APIA though.

You know what ?
We reduce the warranty and free software upgrades and you will get one year warranty and if you want more you need to pay for it.
Also the free upgrades are gone and you need to pay for that!

Isn't that a great step forward ? :)

Funny thing is that legally a 2 year warranty applies here :)

So nagging time is over.

Also as they are cleary killing of 54xx/56xx there is now no digital handset that has programmable buttons with digital display = step backwards, same for IP sets.....unless of course you go for 9630+ but with the new licence they are not exatly cheap and are not as user friendly as 5420's by a long way :)

Reading some more on the Partner Portal. You need to purchase something, or you can not get a ticket opened to TierIII. Depending on your disty's protocol, nothing will change there. You still need to open ticket with them (unless your an Expert)so they can send to TierIII. I remember hearing $1200(US) for 5 hours of time.

So, will you guys take the chance of spending the money???

i was under the impression that you werent allowed to buy kit unless you met the 2x acss and 2xapss requirement, which would make you expert status, which allows you to bypass your disti support? so are all the disti techs going to lose their jobs?
