Around 2 months ago I purchased a Sniper 2100 USB mouse. The device has worked perfectly with one issue that frequently comes up.

50% of the time when I boot up my system the mouse is not recognized by Win XP. I receive the pop-up message from the system tray indicating this. And of course, the cursor will not move.

If I remove the USB connection and reconnect several times it will eventually pick it up. Generally this takes less than 5 attempts.

1: I have never had an issue with the mouse loosing connection while the system is on, its only that it is not recognized during boot up. Once its recognized, all is well

2: The USB port itself seems fine. This issue occurs regardless of which port I use and none of them have an issue when connecting my UPS via USB connection. Seems to only be the mouse.

Any ideas? Thanks.

I would try getting a usb to ps2 connector and tring it that way if you still have problems you may want to consider getting a new mouse sounds like maybe a loose wire connection

I'm currently fighting a problem similar to yours. I have a card reader plugged into a special port (USB) on the mobo. When I hook up my new printer (USB), the printer re-installs itself on every reboot, causing two instances and failure. I swithed the card reader to a regular port and everything is fine. On your system, unplug the other USB devices and just leave the mouse connected. If the mouse works properly now, start looking for conflicts.

Thanks to both that have replied. In regards to the second response, currently I am not using any other USB devices so the conflict doesnt seem to be an issue. (I have since disconnected the USB connection for the UPS)

I do have a USB to PS2 connector which I will try. Thanks for the tip. I have thought of the wiring being loose but it seems strange that it will work fine for hours on end once its connected and will not be an issue until the computer is shut down and later restarted.

Thanks.
