I have 2 W2K SP4 Micron ClientPro 325's - both with the same problem.
When a jump drive is inserted, the system sees the new hardware, but does not find a driver for it. It shows up as "Unknown Device" and cannot be accessed. Here's what I've found...
In the registry (HKLM/system/currentcontrolset/enum) USBStor is missing. Here's the kicker, the device manager shows...
Intel(R) 82801DB/DBM USB Enhanced Host Controller
Intel(R) 82801DB/DBM USB Universal Host Controller - 24C2
Intel(R) 82801DB/DBM USB Universal Host Controller - 24C4
Intel(R) 82801DB/DBM USB Universal Host Controller - 24C7
Unknown Device
USB 2.0 Root Hub
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
(Note - no USB Mass Storage device)
If I disable the Enhanced Host Controller, the system rescans and installs the jump drive correctly - USB Mass Storage Device appears and Unknown Device and USB 2.0 Root Hub go away. In the registry, USBStor is now present.
If I re-enable the Enhanced Host Controller, it rescans and I lose the jump drive and USBStor is gone from the registry.
I suspect a Micron supplied drive set, but I have updated about everything I can find for the motherboard - bios, chipset firmware, USB drivers, etc.
Anyone have any idea where I might look for a cure for this pesky problem?
