See bulletin # PA20090049 just released this week.

Mitel has just announced a rebate incentive program for customers wishing to upgrade certain older 3300s to the new MXe-II platforms. (so they can upgrade to rls 9.1)

Eligible 3300 controllers are as follows:

50002211
50002880
50002970
50002971
50004190
50004191
50004343

To qualify, these controllers must have been assigned an application record on the AMC between March 1,2005 and September 1, 2006.

Without listing the exact rebate dollars here, there are two rebate opportunities:

1. replace one of the above qualifying controllers with a new MXe-II (Promo part # 52002361)

or

2. replace one of the above qualifying controllers with a new redundant MXe-II w/dual power supplies, RAID sub-system and hard disk twin-pak (Promo part # 52002351)

obviously there's a greater rebate amount for #2

Upon order validation, the sysID of the old controller will be blacklisted on the AMC & the customer is to cease use of the old controller & decommission it within 30 days. It was unclear whether the old sysID will have to be surrendered or not. Core software & licenses will be migrated to the new AMC record.

The CX is not included in this promotion.

I got this from my VAR. If you got your system in 2005 you can get about 25% of original equipment cost back as a credit toward new equipment purchase. It covers hardware only.

Not so bad since licensing cost is the killer and you can keep your old AMC record.

25% of original investment if you base it on replacement with a redundant (RAID) system, but only around 7% if you replace just the controller and don't upgrade it.

Curious how many are considering doing the RAID drive array with dual power supplies and how its working out for them.

With RAID-0 (Mirroring) if you have corrupt data on one drive, wouldn't the data on the other drive be corrupt too? Obviously the benefit of drive mirroring comes when you have one drive crash and the other keeps spinning.

The redundant power supply is a good idea that gets even better if you have it on separate breakers (separate power buss). Even better with separate power sources, ie commercial power with UPS feeding one and generator-backed power feeding the other.

What I find strange is that Mitel has not offered a DC option. This is particularly strange in light of the fact that the output of the 3300 power supply is 12 VDC. Likely voltage regulation is more of a concern. (ie, my -48 power plant delivers -56 VDC to the buss and the system can run as low as -42 before LV dropout occurs.)

Curious too why Mitel chose Hitachi Deskstar series drives instead of Hitachi's Ultrastar series commercial drives? They're only incrementally more expensive, barely 25% more.
Maybe the Deskstar is actually the same drive, like INTEL CPUs. Who knows.

Any HDD will work in there. Looks like they just got the best deal from Hitachi on this model.
I had instance when HDD crashed on relatively new system I didn't need to rush with replacement, so RAID is a nice option if you can afford it within a budget.

DC power option should not be an issue for MXe model. I don't see any good reasons not to offer it.

Put a good drive in there to start with and you ought not be replacing it. I have 3 2K systems each going on 10 years old, still on the original drives. Guess that's not the "design intent" anymore.

Major accounts routinely "life-cycle" their PCs and network hardware every 3~5 years, spending zillions without batting an eye. Now they're going to need to budget to do the same thing with their phones. In the present economy I don't see many new systems in my immediate future.

Curious why would you want a DC system? I did a number of DC only SX2000's and had to install battery plants for backup but now we typically install in a customers computer room with all their servers etc and its far easier to plug into their UPS then arranging backup for a DC system.

Some one wondered why the choice of hard drives but as any manufacture, Mitel wants to reduce manufacturing costs and goes the cheapest way. If you are buying thousands of harddrives a 25% saving is money best spent elsewhere when you have to compete in the market. Maybe thats the same reason for no DC. Providing more powering options increases manufacturing costs.

DC Power is a carryover back to the POTS days when the phone simply worked forever, even when the kitten gnawed on the wire or your 2-year old threw the thing in the bathtub.

Our phones are DC because our terrestrial microwave system is (and will always be) DC.

Its all a matter of needing something that "by God works" when nothing else does.

Our battery-backed DC systems have generators backing up the float chargers & the battery banks (dual/redundant) can carry the PBX & microwave load for 8 hours even without the generator. The batteries get inspected monthly and load-tested annually

I have looked on Mitel's website and can't seem to find (See bulletin # PA20090049 just released this week)

Has anyone got any further information.

I have had confirmation from my Mitel account manager that this rebate incentive program is only available in Australia and no where else.

Sure and the rest of the world can stick up in there ********* :)
