Unexpected Reboot

I have Mitel 3300 CX controller running software version 7.1. Customer reported that the controller reboots for couple of times in a month. There is no specific time or date.

I have checked all the possibilities that will cause the controller to reboot like programmed reboot schedule... etc, but without any clue.

Also there is any way to have help files or document explaining the log to find out if the reboot really occurred.
 
Just connect a pc with hyperterminal to it

If there are reboots you will see and maybe vxworks puts out even more :)

Have you looked under the all maintenance and software logs around the times reported. Maybe it is something simple like a power issue, or duplicate ip address. You can look at logs through esm on your own accord
 
First off, I would find out more information from your customer. How do they know the controller rebooted? Are they sure it wasn't just a set that rebooted? For an end user to know the difference I think would be quite rare. If however they have a mix of analog and IP sets, and all of them stopped working at the same time and the lights were still on in the building, then sure, it was probably a controller rebooting, otherwise, who knows.

In the case that it was a controller reboot, you could look at the software logs. Every time you reboot a controller, there are a certain number of 'guaranteed' logs. Get to know those logs and you can tell exactly when a controller was rebooted. Looking at the logs BEFORE that (in time) might give you a clue as to why.
 
I would look for startup sequence pattern in logs and parts right before it. Normally it will report something if it is any sort of software/hardware fault. If it is IP phones it will look the same if PoE switch will restart. So ask them to check uptime of their network equipment as well. If phones loose contact with the controller for more then about a minute they will restart.
 
I have had that if the loggs fill up the Controller reboots to clear the loggs.

Have a look at other issues that might cause a lot of loggs.
