Hi,
I have been having a nightmare with what should be a very simple task, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I have two pc's running Windows XP with static IP's of 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2 in a Workgroup connected via a small hub. They can see each other with no problems and share drives, printers etc.
I am trying to add a laptop to this configuration. The laptop's IP is 192.168.0.3, with the same subnet as the other pc's. When I add it to the network it cannot ping or be pinged by the other computers. It can however been seen by the other computers in My Network Places, though a permissions error pops up when trying to click on it.
There is nothing in Windows firewall settings on any computer that should prevent access and there are no other firewall devices. The laptop is a member of the same workgroup and there is no internet connection on this network. When the laptop is booting up it can for a brief period (about ten seconds) be pinged by the other computers on the network before something starts to prevent access.
This laptop works fine on two other networks, one running DHCP on a Domain and the other with static IP's on a workgroup. I have even tried installing a DHCP server on this little network. The laptop picks up an IP address but can still not be pinged.
I have asked many people and they have never come across a problem like this. It is starting to drive me insane. Please help me.......
