I have a BCM400 (unsure of release) that I am not able to access via any method. Console, IP or telset. the phones work and they can make/recieve calls. No voicemail and since the IP subsystem seems to be down no IP phones can register. The LEDs are flashing like the services can't start.

THey told me that they have replaced the BFT, HD and MSC card, but I can't verify if it was new stuff or gray market. Are there any steps I can take to try and get this thing working before I start throwing parts at it?

If it's 4.0 u should be using EM. If it's 3.x use IE & Unified mgr.

Check the BFT. If the caps are grn replace. Caps should be blue or any color not grn.

If ur digital sets are up that suggests the MSC is ok.

When u say no vmail do u mean it;s down or you're not using it? If u mean it's down I'd say u've got either bad caps on the bft or a bad HD.

start w/ the bft

In any case the system have to give access to you via http or https, if the system is a 400 with a 3.0 release try to manage it via The front left panel have several green led, when u power up the system, after 12 mins this leds have to become solid green, if they're still flashing probably the opsys is failing...

Anyway, the mainboard is a free Nortel retrofit, so any insta guy have to replace it with a new one.

Thanks all. Yeah, I figured it may the BFT. I forgot to look at the cap color when I pulled the board, but it definitely may be the issue. To answer the Vm question, it's down.

I will lay hands on a BFT and go from there, if that doesn't work I will try another HD.

Remove power from the system for 10 minutes and then let it boot up again and see if you get solid lights. Have you tried connecting a monitor to the BCM to see where it hangs?

No, that on slipped my mind. Thanks, I will take one with me on the next trip.

I have a cheap-o flat screen that I carry in my van just for this very reason.. Otherwise, am sure there is a server monitor next to the system (if rack mounted), remove it from their server and connect it to the BCM.

Well, it ended up being the HD. I need to try and locate a troubleshooting guide or a class....these things are hard to diagnose.
