2000server network with mixed 2000/xp clients

I can access » at home with SBC DSL
At work I can not, I used to be able to.
I've tried changing DNS to other known DNS servers, I am the IT manager so I know we dont have any filtering software, no firewalls, nothing I can think of restricting access including lmhost, host files. Tried different browsers and different machines.
I've even tried plugging an XP laptop directly into our modem and still cant get to techimo.com
When I tracert techimo.com from work it times out.
When I tracert from home it works fine.
I did find a forum post that talks about RoadRunner people having problem a few weeks ago. »The only thing I can find of interest, has a blacklist page and theplanet.com the host for techimo.com has several bad listings.

Why would 2 different DSL accounts in the same city act differently. I've called SBC Indian Tech support, after 2 hours they finally passed me back to the US and got someone in networking, they cant helpme because our issue is with 1 website and they the technicians can access it fine.
After requesting a supervisor, I got a number for SBC people that handle Reverse DNS.

Any thing else I can check?

Either:

. in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc You have an HOSTS entry;

. or, your ISP DNS servers have a bad entry for the site.

I've looked at the host file both on my server and local client

I'm still battling with my ISP about the DNS issue.
They never want to admit fault.

What happens when you query your ISP's DNS servers for the address of this site? What results do you get?

You should get ..

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: Address: 69.93.248.139

Chris.

iproute is on the right track here. Sadly, I always like to troubleshoot networking problems using the OSI. First things first, when you traceroute from work, where does it stop? If you can get to it from home, you may be able to identify the router at which the transmission is failing (unless it doesn't leave your network at all.) Have you tried accessing the web page from work using just the IP? Or "telnet 69.93.248.139 80" to test the layer 4 access? These could be helpful in isolating the problem. The more information you can gather to present a case to your ISP, the better.

running a tracert from work does not leave my network, though it does translate to the correct IP

Tracing route to techimo.com [69.93.248.139]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 * * * Request timed out.
2 * * * Request timed out.
3 * * * Request timed out.

I have also tried reaching the website by IP only, to no avail. And telnet does not work either.

my ISP still doesnt believe me.
Though I posted this on another forum.
And other people on SBC in the same state can not access the website from multiple locations.

Getting more odd at every turn.

Tracert from home.

Then someone has an access list that is blocking . Turn it over to your ISP and ask them to test from their closest router interface to you. They our you is you have access can telnet to the web site , try

telnet 80 , you'll see the html and won't be able to do anything but you'll test connectivity.

You mentioned the hosting company was black listed, thats most likely the issue. Get your ISP to look into this, don't waste your own time , its their problem . Send them an email with copies to your account manager and internal purchasing asking for resolution and
see how long it takes.

You might want to contact the website directly and tell them what is happening.

The owner of Techimo was already aware for the problem with select Roadrunner customers.
But the host was not aware of why there were problems.

I finally was able to access the site on Wed 1/5/05 so everything appears to be ironed out.

Thanks everyone for your assistance.
