This is only on a copper based ISDSN 30 NTE, not the fibre ones. I know it means there is an issue, but what does anyone know what it actually means? Is it the NTE > System or Exchange > NTE interface at fault? You get the "Alarm" light when the kit is not connected, but normally that goes out when you connect the kit, in a few cases (and now I have it again) I have the "Alarm" light and the 2M/X21 light on and they never go out and the line stays out of service.

Getting the cutomer to call BT out even though they gave the usual "Looks fine to us" routine, just wondered if anyone knew what it actually identified to BT

Thanks :)

Make a loop back jack.

Get an RJ45 and get two wires.
Connect one with pin 1 and 4 and another one with 2 and 5.
Plug it in to the providers modenm/router.
When the alarm light goes out then it is OK.
Then plug it in to the PRI card.
When the led goes green then it is OK.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

It's OK, I know it's a BT issue, but if you tell them what the actual issue is they are less inclined to treat you like an idiot, plus I want to know what it means anyway, plus the site is many many miles away in Smelly London :)

I just got back from there, the sun is out here too, it just isn't as grimy and smelly here as most of London is, I really couldn't live there :)

Beware
Beware

I had one like this

The E1 connection is very recessed on these NTEs. Please make very very sure that the cat 5 cable is fully plugged in.

I cannot stress this more... They look like they are plugged in, but they are not. PUSH until you hear the click...

Take Care

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

I've learnt by bitter experience, when I plugged it in both the X21 and Alarm light went out and calls worked....

It is clicked in fully, the system detects the circuit but it never comes in service and the PRI light on the system flashes rather than goes solid green :)

Yep, they swear blind it has been brought into service an that it tests Ok, I know for a fact they are full of it but I would like to tell them their own job by pointing out the actual issue rather than the customer just saying "it has lights on the box" :)

who brought it into service - an engineer or the customer? only the customer or dealer can bring it into service these days, and not the engineers..... (i.e you)

power cycle the IPO - perhaps the card needs to re-sync with the ISDN

Customer brought it into service, everthing power cycled etc, trust me I have done all the troubleshooting possible without having actually stuck a trend on the line as I didn't have one handy at the time :)

Andy, try the jack.
It will proove that your PRI card is alright.
After that screw BT.

I get this on new circuits that have been stage 1 tested and are waiting to be brought in to service.

The x21 light normally flashes as well as the sync light on the ipo, once brought into service all go out.

I had recently with new wlr3 lines where they brought it into service without having any kit connected to the nte and said it will work when the kit was plugged in. It didn't and I ended up having to reterminate the nte
