I know there is a silent monitoring feature available. How exactly do I configure this, and then how does a user actually perform the monitoring?

The silent monitoring feature is listed on the Feature Code Admin page (PBX - PBX Configuration - Feature Codes) in the "Core" section. The name used for the feature is ChanSpy and ChanSpy Direct - the default feature codes are 555 and 779. The password to be used for ChanSpy Direct is right next to it.

The ChanSpy feature allows silent monitoring starting with a randomly selected extension. The ChanSpy Direct allows silent monitoring starting with a specific extension.

While on the call, the caller can
a) change the volume by pressing the # key (cycles in the sequence 1 2 3 4 -4 -3 -2 -1 and over again).
b) switch to another active extension by pressing the * key
c) switch to a specific extension by dialing the extension and pressing #

Does this feature work with legacy Norstar phones, such as the M7310 or T7316E?
