I am trying to add a second cots sig server to my system. I loaded linux on it as well as the 3 patches, Baseweb, linux base, and patch web. I then connected it to the ELAN and TLAN and verified I could ping it as well as the existing sig server, which is the primary security server. I then logged into the new one using admin2 and went thru the security setup, making it a backup security server, giving it the IP of the prim security server, entered the admin user and password. Got a screen back saying it received the CA cert and to do a restart. So all looked normal to me. After the restart I logged into the primary sec server UCM expecting to see my new sig server there as an element, yet it does not show up. I hard rebooted it and still it does not show up as an element.
Am I missing a step or something?

You need to deploy the new server and put the service pack on it.

Keep in mind also these things take a while to come up. After you hard boot the new SS give it at least 10 minutes to come up if not longer. You may also have to log out of UCM and back in for it to see the new SS

I gave it plenty of time (at least 30 minutes) and watched on command line and was able to log into the local UCM of the new sigserver.
I wanted to deploy the apps and load the service pack from the primary security server. Doesn't it have to be part of the security domain to do that? I don't think it will show up as a target on the Service pack page if it isn't part of the security domain.

Also, I did log out of UCm and back in on the primary just in case that was necessary and it never showed up on the elements page.

I would run through the security config again, I bet it didn't take. I have seen this before.

Actually, I did run thru it 2 other times hoping that was the issue. Each time it showed everthing OK and said to click to restart.

Also make sure the 3 base patches show in service with the PSTAT command

OK, I will check that next week when i return to try again. I doubt it is in deployment manager since I am sure it isn't part of sec domain. I can't login with admin only admin2 so I know it isn't part of the domain yet because of that...
Thanks!

That is the one thing I didn't think of ! I have had to do that in the past...

have you deployed it locally & loaded the SP?

Remember if it doesn't work hit it harder

if you are not using DNS, add the NAME of the security server in the local host list on the backup security server and Vs. Vesa.

phones1, I have only loaded the linux and 3 base patches. I want to load the SP and deploy apps from the primary security server once I have joined the security domain.

Triton101.. If I print out the /etc/hosts file it says ..

##################################################
## DO NOT MANUALLY MODIFY THIS FILE
## Auto generated by LinuxBase facility
##################################################

is there a way to not "manually" modify the hosts file that I am not aware of?

its not in LINUX cli, but when you log into LINUX BASE VIA HTTP page, it's a link on UCM webpage. then you will see it on the left column.
