The sixth sheiks sixth sheeps' sick

as probably is my spelling and punctuation!

More difficult twisters welcome

Only if you pronounce "sheik" as "sheek". I've also heard it pronounced "shake".

De mortuis nihil nisi bonum.

Correct as "sheek"

Or the sixth sheik's shifter's sixth shapes' sick.
shake
I guess that's stretching "shape shifter" too far!

I thought it was

The sixth sick sheik's sixth sheep's sick.

And yes, "sheek" is the correct pronunciation of "sheik."

A sacrifice is harder when no one knows you've made it.

Yes I believe you are correct, I must have a sick engram somewhere.

Now I'm curious what the actual pronunciation of the original arabic word is.

>And yes, "sheek" is the correct pronunciation of "sheik."

It is one of the pronunciations; "shake" is also fine.

And I've hear the tongue twister in a minor variant:

The sixth sick sheik's sixth sheep's sick

Hey strongm,

That's what I meant, after seeing flapeyre's dictionary link showing "shake" as an alternate pronunciation, I wanted to know what the original arabic word sounds like.

As for the variant, didn't I already say that? :)

-------------------------------------
A sacrifice is harder when no one knows you've made it.

Well, I should have let it slide by... I don't like how much of a stickler I am for this kind of thing (setting the record straight). I think it's a character flaw.

A sacrifice is harder when no one knows you've made it.

ESquared,

But you can find an original pronunciation on the same site flapeyre shown, on the bottom. It's rather a or ay, and the last sound is closer to h or to kh then to k.

The symbols given didn't mean a lot to me... I was hoping for a recording.

A co-worker who speaks some Arabic says "Shay khe"
One sylable but kinda like two.

Sheek is what they call an American razor.

You mean, as in Schick, the company?

Try saying "toy boat" ten times fast without messing up!

The pronunciation of sheik (also spelt sheikh) varies considerably depending on which country in the Middle East you're in, and the local dialect. The vowel sound seems to be generally in the range:
sheck
shack
shake
sheek
but the terminal consonant is more often the standard Arabic guttural similar to the German Buch or the Scottish Loch, but can be quite close to a hard K in a few places

'If we're supposed to work in Hex, why have we only got A fingers?'

red lorry yellow lorry" - repeat as neccesary
is hard

"the Leith police dismisseth us for throwing froth" is quite hard

"Thus spake the seraph and forthwith" can also be tricky

Go not to cats for advice for they will just walk over the keyboard

If drunk enough I could probably handle "the Leith police dismisseth us for throwing froth" otherwise it probably requires mouth and tongue surgery!

"Good Blood Bad Blood" is also an old favorite
