Hi all,

I added a list of PCs into the Symantec System Center. After that I started to perform manual scan on one of the PC...but received the below error.

*******************************************************

The requested operation will not be performed on the following Server Groups and/or machines because their topology information could not be retrieved from the Symantec System Center Topology Service.

*********************************************************

Could someone kindly advised what is Topology Service? Would be extremely grateful.

This basically means that it can't communicate with the pc. Either something has changed on the pc such as the pc is not turned on at the moment or the pc was upgraded to a different OS without Symantec being uninstalled first.

Hi destini,

Very grateful to u for replying. Yup, the network cable is a faulty.. had replaced it. Thats why the server could not communicate with the rest.

My company are often infected with virus. I had borrow books to read up on all these... but I think I am still new and inexperience..thus I have difficulty understanding. Could u be so kind as to recommend me so solutions against virus for a company... such as websites?

I've been managing virus protection at my company for a year now using Symantec Corporate Edition 8.1. Best advice I can give you is to be sure all pc's and servers are protected and scan all email before it hits the users pc. Also, don't allow users to check online email such as hotmail and yahoo. All of my information from forums such as this one and from Symantec's website.

I recommend a multilevel approach:

All our mail in and out goes through Messagelabs.
Then it goes through our firewall that stips off practically all types of attachments.

Then it is scanned on the email server.

Then it gets to the users desktop and is scanned there.

It's impossible to have too much protection [lol]

Hi all,

Sorry to bother u ppl again. Just like to know how does SAV8.0 work together with Lotus Notes (my company using R5)? When I installed SAV Client on my user workstation, I selected Notes to be protected. But I can't figure out how it works, how it scans all my mails? Could someone kindly gave me some clue. I checked the website for more info...but found none. = (

If your user PCs are running XP SP2, you might consider turning off the Windows firewall to test this issue.

Please help me with this same issue!

The above posts gave me a qlue of what my problem is. I am also receiving a message of

It was working perfect while i was only running
Windows 2000 Server
and Windows 2000 Professional

Now I've added 6 laptops with Windows XP Pro to the network. I installed Symantec Co Ed 8.0 (8.1). It runs fine, and updates information to the "System Center Console". But it will not run a manual scan. then i only get the error notet above. Is there a solution to the OS issue?
The server is still running win 2k server, and the stationary computers are still running 2k pro with no problem what so ever.

Could someone kindly advised how to solve this issue?
Would be extremely grateful,
Thank you for your time

englevakten,

Glacierxx's link mentioned the same thing I've noted above; however, you didn't state whether or not you have SP2 installed on your XP machines. You also didn't mention whether you're runnning a domain (though there'd be little reason to have XP Pro if you weren't) on your server. If you're a domain, be sure your XP machines are also members of the domain. I have a client where one PC isn't a member of the domain, but uses the Norton Corp running on the server. It works fine, except I too can't run a manual scan from the server.

I'm running a domain

the laptops with xp pro are running with service pack 2

I did read prior to installation of SP2 that there might be issues with sp2 and symantec co ed., but I though they mentioned versions of the 7 series, not 8 series.

Perhapse i was mistaken
