taskbar icons vanish

all active and inactive icons vanished.

possible culprits - recently (within 2 weeks) ran "pc pitstop optimize" and "advanced window care(v2)" but am careful as to what they remove(i think).

checked for spyware and that av/fw - appears ok.
ran apps and set icons as shown and then hid.
opt mouse icon is missing but works!.

q1 has this happened to anyone else/likely cause?
q2 a utility to control autoruns and display of active/inactive icons?.

Not sure why that would happen but if you right click the taskbar and select properties and on the taskbar tab at the bottom to the right of the "hide inactive icons" tick box there is a button called customize and you should be able to control which icons appear and which don't
