I have a Nortel Option 81C tied to Avaya CM 5.2 with a non Pri T1. I am using access codes to connect to each system. When dialing from the Nortel, the access code and then the extension number works fine. However, when dialing from the Avaya, I have to dial the access code along with, I believe, the route number before I can enter the extension. Using 80 as the access code, I can dial 80 and then must dial a 1 before I can dial the extension on the Nortel. Any thoughts why I must dial the 1 first?

If you have 4 digit stations on the Nortel like 4999, then the Nortel trunk group is absorbing the first digit or your Avaya trunk group is deleting a digit.
It would probably work with 24999 as well as any number used for the first digit.
