Currently using internal database to reocord time in small plant enviroment on local network. Each day the file grows 2+ Meg and slows down more and more. Go into tools and compacting restores system response time for useres.

Is this growth to be expected?

How can it be stopped?

Don't compact it. System response won't be restored for users. <G>

That's a fact of life with access. Do you do a lot of adding and deleting records? That's a big cause, and probably one that can be avoided.

Do all of you users use one copy of the database? If so, you're begging for corruption problems. Do some research into splitting your database into a front end and a back end.

Thanks for the help but problem was hardware not software.
Some systems were OK other were slow. Slow pcs were those left running for days and Windows 98 develops problems under
this condition. Rebooting solved problem with response time

Oldman59,

We no longer support any application in a production environment that uses Windows 98 OS.

The major reason is just as you described, system resources dwindle over time, and the only way to recover is to reboot the pc.

The best solution is an upgrade of the hardware and the OS (after all, we should keep Mr Gates bank account growing, right?).
