We had outage on our local lines (2 T1s) for most of the day yesterday and this morning. we have several other trunks for admin, toll free etc. Would there be a way that i could have a backup plan to automatically route traffic form the down T to another? We have 8 other T1's used for other traffic. Obviously, i know nothing about this and when i called our vendor they were of no help to me.

sure, get into your switch and do a "list route", you can add other trunk groups to the routes, if the 1st choice is not availble, ars will move onto the 2nd choice, etc.

a "list trunk" will show you the trunk groups that you can pick from.

There are some books on ars and settingup routing on the support.avaya.com website.

I was able to change the routing for dialing outside, but the concern was the people dialing into our org. How could i route those call?

Your at the mercy of your service provider. Most offer some form of alternate routing. You may have to subscribe to it or pay for it.

What do you do for this type of issue? One of our clients who we answer calls for was very surprised that we did not have a backup plan in place and want one by Monday. AHHH
I just don't know where to begin And THANKS for the reponse

You didn't say what part of the country you are in, but over the right coast, Verizon has a feature called "Out Of Service Redirect", it costs about $75 per month PER number, and you can call them to activate it, or I also think they have a web page you can activate it with. It forwards calls to an alternate number you have. Of ocurse you will need a PRI or service from an alternate provider as well, to make this work. It's also very expensive, so normally you would just use it for your main #'s, DIDs wouldn't work.
