Hi in relation with this thread

I'm into same boat, though my sd card never failed so far, but thinking of this scenario, it is better to have a contingency for this.

With this, is transferring of all my new licenses into new sd card (as back up) will cost a lot? do you have any idea how much?

Regards,
cruzades

Depends on the distributor, basically swapping licenses is just a administrative action so beside the cost of a new SD Card they may bill you for the time they spend on the swap. As for Avaya the swap is free of charge but you need to return the SD card within ten working days otherwise theu bill you for the swapped licenses.

Hi intrigrant,

Thanks, with my requirement, they will charge me for the swapped licenses since I will have this new sdcard as my back-up (redundant sd-card), right?

Will this be a costly?

Regards,
cruzades

This will depend on your Avaya BP. If You were considering adding licenses, now would be the time to do it, as they might do the swap for a nominal fee, since Your adding licenses.
Have you tried reformatting the SD card? I have been able to bring some SD cards back to life with re formats.

@AndrePa

Thanks, my current SD card is still working, I just want a redundant sd-card so that anything will happened to my current sdcard I have one to plug-in and boot the box back up.

cruzades

You would have to buy another set of licenses for the second SD card. The only way licenses can be swapped is if You turn in the old SD card!
The power supply will probably fail in your 500v2, before the SD card goes bad.
I have replaced more dead 500v2, than SD cards in the field.
Just Me 2 cents...

Swapping means returning the faulty card.
If you do not return it then Avaya will charge you the licenses.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

@AndrePa and @tlpeter

It means I have to wait for my current SDcard to be totally useless before I have my licenses swapped to my new SDCard ;(

You can have a spare SD card but the swap must be done when it is needed.
This can take some time but not hours.

@tlpeter,

Code:

this is what I don't want to happened :(, We can't afford to wait more than a day for a downtime ;(

thanks tlpeter.

When i request a swap then it is done in 15 minutes.

@tlpeter,

oh.. I got your 'hours' the other way .. tnx for that ;)

anyway, if that's the case, will BP still charge us? since the situation is bad? we'll be out of the bargaining side if that's the case :(

that's pretty fast tlpeter
Scansource quote aN SLA 2 days for License swaps
(I dont think they have grasped the nature of the circumstances that would require it although to be fair they can get them quicker when pushed. )

A Maintenance contract is essential, not a Luxury.
Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear

Avaya does not charge but our distri does but it is peanuts.
Setup alarms in the IPO and it will send you an email when the card is not working anymore.
Your system than has 2 hours with working licenses.
After these two hours they will go invalid.

And with this, upon asking from our local distro a whooping USD 2,800 for the swapping, what the ?????

considering the case that the old SD Card is still working and NO urgency at the moment, might be different if otherwise.

;(

You just need to buy the extra SD card for now. Then, if you need to install it have them move the licenses over at that point. As long as you ship the old/bad one back they will not charge you for the licenses again. The $2,800 has to be for the SD as well as loading the licenses on it.

Hi Telecomboy

I have my SD Card with us already from the same Distro as initial step and done.

What next in line is the transfer of licenses, and same Distro quoted as that 2.8K USD for just transfer with the condition of 'sending back the old SD card' after a month.

Cruzades,ar you sure that they understand the swap or did they give you a price for new licenses?
A swap is free of charge for Avaya.
So if your distri gave you a price for a swap then tell them to be honest or you will go away.

@tlpeter,

I assumed they do understand that, the requirement is clear to them, and I've even stressed this out that this will be a redundant (which is NOT going to be possible), then we negotiate for 'transfer' of license, they agree and give the quoted price with the condition of 'returning the old sd card to them after a month', having this, it is a swap technically.

So they charge 2800 dollar for a swap?
I would tell them something that i will not write down here :)
