The company I work in has Symantec AV installed in a managed environment. All the clients (20) are successfully communicating with the server. The problem comes when I try to initiate a manual scan from the server to a client are any of the server management features. I get a "Cannot communicate with client' error. When I turn off the firewall on the clients machines (WinXP) the server seems to communicate normally so I am having a firewall issue. What exception need to be added to the client firewalls in order to make this work and what would be the best way to accomplish this through the server. I know I can add a group policy that will add programs or ports to the exceptions list but this will override any existing exceptions on the clients which I'd like to try and stay away from. Any recommendations on the best way to accomplish this?

I am having similar problems only with Netware servers. This link may help you and there are several others similar on the Symantec website. somewhere there is a chart that shows you the port numbers for exceptions in a windows firewall.
