Swapping Cards

What I would like to do is swap out our 400 card (Slot 5) with a 008MLX to get some more ports on our switch. Can anyone tell me what would be involved to do this? How much programming would be needed? Would I have to go through and reprogram every port after this back to it's original number? We also have some paging ports in there as well. Any other info that you could give me would be great. Let me know. Thanks in advance.

Based on my experience this past weekend, since you are not swapping like-for-like, and you have both trunk and station ports beyond slot 5, you will have to reprogram everything. Your trunk numbers will shift 'back' four, and your station numbers will shift 'up' four.

Others may have better suggestions.

So what programming would this all entail? Just a bunch of system renumbering?

Depends what you have after slot 5. For the 012 cards probably just renumbering. But, when you get to the t1 cards, you may have a few issues. Is the T1 a PRI? or straight T? Ar any of the trunks past slot 5 personal lines or are they all pool? (personal means faxes also) You will have to add and remove trunks from pool groups. Basically, you will be reprogramming the system from scratch for the cards in slot 6 and beyond.

My advice would be to swap your LAST 008 MLX for an 016 MLX. (Slot 16)

Let's just say, that would be a start.

So, now you have added 8 MLX ports that WILL NOT INTEFERE with any others.

The problem is, to grow some more, you would have to swap the 008 MLX in slot 15 with an 016-MLX. AND when you do that, you would skew the translations in slot 16.

BUT, that would not be nearly as bad as trying to change your slot 5 to an MLX card.

If you do that, you will be programming for DAYS AND DAYS AND DAYS to straighten that out.

I KNOW, 'CAUSE I DID THAT VERY THING ! !

Do you know for sure if this would affect the DS1 (100D) card in Slot 17 at all?

No, the trunk ids would all stay the same in that card.
