Looking for a way to program a "Release" button for phones on a 9100 [ I'm replacing old Nortel sets ].

Customer pages a lot and wants to try and avoid sending audio of the receiver hanging up - they're not too keen on using a finger either, although they may be forced to. Drop key doesn't work on internal calls, and neither does Recall button.

One of those silly things that should be simple, but.... Any thoughts?

I'm also a recent convert from the Nortel line (Option 11C). There are some things that I just expected the NEC to be able to do. A "release" feature key is one of them. I also dislike the way the CAP and ICM keys work. If my phone is ringing, I would like to see a blinking line appearance while it is ringing. On phones with a mixture of CAP and virtual line appearances, this can be a real point of confusion.

The drop key is for CO/PBX calls. I suggest pressing the hook switch while on an internal call for new dial tone. It's really no different than if there was a key to press to establish new dial tone.
CAR/CAP keys are used for systems that have more CO lines than buttons on the phones. You DIT a trunk, or all trunks to a CAR (call arrival key extension) then place it and several CAP (call appearance keys) on a phone. When the call comes in it rings and flashes on the CAR key and when answered it jumps to the first CAP key leaving the CAR key available for more calls. Usually in a DID application you give a phone 1 CAR key and 2 CAP keys so it can take 2 calls at one time. You can also set the CAR key as a virtual extension by setting it to "land on key", where the call will remain on that key until released. If you want to see your extension light up when off hook, try placing a DSS/ONE touch key on your phone with your extension on it.

I knew what CAP keys are used for but I did not know that I could make a virtual extension key for my own extension. By doing this, the key flashes when a call (any source) arrives. This is a more desired effect than having no key flash (other than ANSWER) when the source is external. Now the phone behavior is more consistent when it is used to answer multiple virtual extensions AND its own calls. Thanks!

*** SOLVED!!! ***

In 15-07 Function key 40 - Handset Transmission Cut-Off!!!

I've never seen it or heard it mentioned anywhere, but it acts like a release key. I found it looking for something else. I love the wonderfully verbose wording too! Whats wrong with release or hang-up???

Thanks for the replies, and I hope this can help someone else out there. Cheers!

*** NOT SOLVED!!!*** / ***SOLVED***

The handset transmission cutoff works for intercom and trunk calls, but NOT for paging [ the main reason I wanted it ]!!

Aaaaarrgghh!!

But I did find a way.....

I gave everyone a VE key and set 15-02-21 to outgoing, so when they press it it will disconnect what they're on and hit that virtual. I then had to set a unique virtual so that it wouldn't light up at any time - I thought of using a virtual of the extension, but it would light up or flash and just confuse the users. I also denied almost everything for the unique virtuals - almost empty COS, denied all outbound etc so they won't start calling people from the Release button.

Now I just tell them to press the Release button [my label] and when it goes green, hang up. Ugly, but effective....
