I have a subfom on a form.

The subform basically just displays a large textbox for comments. The subform gets the comments from a table called tblComments.

If there is a record to display, the subform shows the record from the table and the user is able to edit that record. However if the table does not have a record to display the user cannot enter a comment.

Do I need to somehow create a record in the table (if one does not already exist) when a user selects the subform?

I am wondering if I just need to set some property. TIA...

Isn't the subform linked to the main form with LinkMasterFields and LinkChildFields ?

Hope This Helps, PH.

Yes it is.

Not sure why this is happening.

It has something to do with the group permissions on tblComments. If I give the Users Group Update Data and Insert Data permissions everything works fine. Not sure why I need to do this. I better brush up on my security knowledge.

I don't know your application - so this is just for consideration. But I have never seen a table just representing comments (i.e. as an separte entity). I use comments (Memo type data) in an application and comment is related to a transaction - so it is a field in transaction table.
I bring this up in case linking problem could be avoided by having the comments in the main table.

But I have never seen a table just representing comments
Its usually the case when comments are rare

Yes the comments are a bit an the rare side and cannot be put in the main table. Thanks for the insight though.
