Hi guys

Not the first post i was hoping for but anyways, installed an IP500 (4.0.10) last week, with a mixture of DS5410 and IP6410. On DS to DS calls there is a background line noise on internal calls (external not linked up yet), IP to IP is fine, DS to IP is fine "ish", DS to DS being the loudest.

We have swapped out the IP500 control unit and DS30 module no joy still there, plugged the DS phones straight into the DS module, still white noise, to rule out cabling even thought the cabling has been certified CAT5 so wasnt expecting that to be an issue, the rack is grounded to their local distribution board earthing bar, and the IP500 and DS module earthed to the rack.

I would really appreciate some help / advice as im completely at a lost with it !

TIA

if you plug 2 DS phones directly into the module and call each other what happens?

Hi

Same thing, stripped the system back to the basics as one point, IP500 no modules inserted, 30DS expansion connected on diff expansion ports, 2 x 5410 phones plugged straight in, still white noise.

To elaborate the white noise is most noticable for example when both handsets are muted to cut out ambient noise.

have you tried changing where the power is plugged in? Try taking it to a difference circuit(usually couple of offices or rooms down the way)? You might have a case of "Dirty" power.

Try a normal patch cable for your DS30, instead of the original.

Greetzzz.....Bas

Hi

Well i have had it run through a UPS which i hoped would reduce the likely hood of that and the prob still existed, and at the point of testing with the UPS it was actually done two office down from the main rack area.

Just to clarify with the UPS it was running on mains not battery at time of testing.

Probably one of the few things i havent changed is the shielded blue cables that the DS units comes with!

is it happening on the DS module or on the 500 or both? so was the power the problem or not?

Hi

When you say both, how do you mean?

The IP500 is connected to the DS30, and the phones plugged directly into the DS30. I cant plug the phones into the 500 without using the DS30 ?

gotcha, i figured if you had a DS card in the 500 you could rule out the DS30 Module.

Did you upgrade the ds30 in two steps or just one ?
You should do in two steps : 3.2999 and then 4.0.xx

Well, originally I upgraded the DS30 to the latest, after having spoken to tech support at the distributor they said the same thing, you need to drop back to a 3.2xxx then 3.2999 and then up to the 4.0.xxx which we did, still no joy.

Really is as you can see driving me nuts !

Maybe you have a bad ground
remove the grounding and try again

Hi

The grounding we are using was actually set up by the clients in house maintenance people who look after the structure of the building, they ran it back to a distribution board located about 30ft away, and connected it upto an earthing bar in that unit, so i guess we felt that was probably a better/safer/reliable job than most.

Would it cause problems only for DS stations if this was the problem though ?

TIA

If you have some power on it , it will give problems
Sometimes power leaks and will go over the grounding
Then you will have power on your unit wich is very bad
Give it a shot you can't loose :)

Ill see what i can come up with on the grounding front, so other than the grounding and swapping out and using a patch lead instead of the default blue screened patch lead any other thoughts on what could be happening here ?

TIA

did you swap your power supply for your ds30 ?
gknight mensioned bad power, take the system home or your company and try it overthere (sounds strange i know :) )

TBH i cant remember now if i did swap the power unit or not now for the DS30, ,but i know i used it on the replacement and it was the same.

LOL i didnt want to mention it, but yeah in desperation I took it home with me one night, just 2 DS5410's the control unit and DS30 same problem.

Been in and out of the rack a few times now, which aint gonna help, but i think ive covered just about every base going and still cant get this sorted, distributor has no more suggestions either so i feel like im kinda left out to dry a little with the problem so I appreciate all the responses on here i hope one will be the answer im looking for !

TIA

You also could try some other phones like 5402 or 20 or even a complete different range
also don't forget to swap the bleu patchcable !
