I have an IP406v2 with about 120 users, 40 or so are on wired IP phones, 15 have wireless IP phones and the rest are on Digital's. I'm on ver 3.2(55)

A lot of the time in a long conversation you hear a quick bit of static. It is very loud and last about 1/2 a second. The person on the other end of the phone says that they didn't hear anything. It kind sounds like a old CB when you queued the mic.

I have talked to others that have this issue but know one knows the cause or a cure. Any ideas?

is the ip office grounded ?

Yes it is, I have a 12 Gauge wire on the Ground terminal on the back going to my Earth ground for the rest of the computer room.

It does it about every 5 to 10 minites when you are on a long call.

It might be the feds tapping your call?

Long shot!

Does it happen on internal calls or only calls using external trunks?

Could always be a network fault. Have you tested the trunks independantly?

try disconnect the ground to rule out that being the source. Plug a phone in directly to the IPO, to see if it is an issue there. disconnect elements one at a time, trunks, digital phones, expansion modules, etc., etc. to see if a bad device is the issue.

Since I can't check on the Feds I'll hope that is not it.:)

I did replace the ground wire yesterday and connected it to a new terminal block. I guess I don't feel real safe disconnecting it completely but I could try it if this doesn't fix it.

It only seems to happen on External calls but that is also where the majority of our longer calls are.

I haven't tried the trunks yet ether.

Thanks for all the ideas.

Sounds like you may have a clocking issue on your T1, assuming you have one.
I only meant to disconnect the ground long enough to make a ten minute phone call, or until you heard the sound again.

I have seen issues caused system wide by a single bad phone, so be thourough in testing components.
