I've seen this all over the place here but wanted to see if any new information has come up.

1. I am running CM 3.1 on S8720 servers.
2. We recently moved to an IP backbone for our whole, off of fiber link connections.
3. At "some" point in the last two months, people started noticing background static/crackle in the phone line if you turn the volume up on Avaya 8434DX phones or 4620SW IP phones.

4. This static is not consistent between IP to IP phones or IP to TDM phones, and we can't hear it on analog phones (K2500 models) but that's probably because we can't turn the volume up on those.

I've done display alarms and display errors and don't see anything looks like it would stand out. Does anybody have anything specific that they've tested or looked at that eliminated the static?

Thank you!

Make sure you are on the latest firmware for your CLAN's and MEDPRO's, as a starter.

The CLANs all have the same firmware (26).

We have six TN2602 cards that are firmware 49.

We have thirty TN2302 cards total and 27 are on firmware 120 and the other 3 are on firmware 94.

Is it really possible that having 3 out of 30 cards not on the same firmware release causing static?

The only time I've noticed static that I could do something about, it was associated with the synch source.

The synchronization source was non-existant on one gateway, and calls that passed through that gateway had bursts of static.

Adding a synch source to that gateway fixed the whole thing.

Carpe dialem! (Seize the line!)
