Has anyone experienced a really bad echo on their Mitel IP phones. We have a wierd issue where there is an echo on our phones intermittently throughout the day (no pattern) for our Mitel 5220 users. Analog trunk lines were checked and we were not able to duplicate the issue on them.

Mitel is looking at this as a Network issue but we have a sniffer running and there is nothing going on out of the ordinary other than some IPX traffic from our printers.

Any Ideas???

I have noticed that when the volume on the 5220 sets are increased this is also increasing the microphone transmit gain. In my situation I noticed a feedback type of echo when the volume is maxed out. This is a new implemtation here in NJ. I am not sure what is the cause and am hoping for an answer back from my Vendor.
Any thoughts??

What type of switches are you using?
If you make an IP to IP call, do you ever have any issues?

Ensure DCHP option 131 is not in your scope if it is remove it and reboot the sets. This can cause issues on your network.

MitelGuy
I noticed the feedback type echo on an IP set to IP set phone call within the 3300.
Im my cluster I have 2-2K switchs and the 3300. All trunking goes thru the 2Ks on either PRI or DS1.
I noticed this same feed back type echo at a branch which is only 3300 with copper trunks. What I saw seemed to be a direct result of the set volume. ????
Thx

Okay. I'll start with the branch office. You never heard this from me. But there will always bit the "smallest bit" of echo on LS trunks. No manufacture has ever been able to get it perfect. Most do an extremely good job, but it will never be perfect. Echo is the hardest thing to prevent on a IP to TDM conversion.

That interesting you are getting echo on IP to IP calls. Have you tried turning down the volume (childish I know). Also, are you in speakphone mode or handset/headset? How long does this echo last for? Are you the vendor? If so, have you replace one of the phones with a new one? If you are the customer, has your vendor change one of the phones?

We use the 3300 and 200 ICP here in our office, off of LS/Class trunks. Things couldn't be more perfect. Let me know the answers to those questions, and we will go from there.

TheMitelGuy,

Thanks for your post...

1) Yes we have played with the volume adjustments and there doesn't seem to be much difference.

2)This echo is on both speakerphone and handset mode.

3) The echo lasts for the duration of the call but it is intermittent so if you hang up and call the person right back (or receive another incoming call) the echo is usually not there).

4) I am not the vendor but we are currently working with our vendor on this issue.

5) Phones were replaced but to no avail as echo remains.

The next step in testing is using the LSMeasure Tool, Individual or Batch Distortion/Echo Test. Have you had any experience using these tools?

Yes, these tools are a little difficult to use, in my mind. We have DPAR changes into make it easier for other deales. We have also modified some of the documentation for Mitel to make it easier for others to understand. The tools work, and work well, just takes a little reading to fully understand.

The LS/Measure tool will only work on the trunks, and I think you said you are having this issue between IP terminals as well?
