I recently received a Partner ACS system from a friend who has had it stored in the attic for approximately 18 months. The system works apparently, except for the fact that you can't hear ANYTHING over the static. The static is on every extension, but you can faintly hear the tone in the background. If you dial an extension it will ring that extension, but the static is there as well. It is present on all extensions on all cards - even if the Processor is the only card in the carrier there is static.

Here's my setup:
Lucent Partner ACS
1 - ACS Proc 103G4
2 - 308EC R1.0
1 - Mail VS 539C4 R4.1

Any ideas or recommendations would be greatly apreciated?

Ive seen this when they first come up try leaving it runing for a day or two .

could be the power supply ,

I had the same experiance with one that had been in storage it came up and has been running fine for a couple of years now .

Your suggestion did the trick. I left it running for about 12 hours and tried it again. No more static!

When I plugged phones into additional extensions there was static, but after leaving the phones plugged into those for a couple of hours it too had worked itself out.

Thank you all for the responses, I probably would have unnecessarily purchased a new processor without your advice.

The noise (static) you were hearing was more than likely caused by the power supply, or other capacitors "leaking". The electrolite between the two "plates" in electrolytic (polorized) capacitors tends to break down over time when out of service, much like a battery self discharges. Reapplying the power and letting it "cook" for 12-24 hrs before use allows the cap to "reform". If the noise clears, you are probably ok, if not the unit would need to be repaired or replaced.

While you are at the dumpster, grab out a BCM, don't buy one. There should be plenty in there.

You do not always get what you pay for, but you never get what you do not pay for.

I did not know that about the capacitors Phonesrus, thanks for the info.

My two cents, lets all throw endlesswinter in the dumpster.

Hey, let's not give endlesswinter to hard a time. If I ever have a question on a BCM, it looks like from his profile, he has some knowledge and experience there. We can not all know every system, if I was replying in the BCM forum, I would probably have no better solution than "pull it out and put in an Avaya partner, legend, magix, IP Office, or Toshiba ctx/cix 100, 670,strata 424,280,40,14, 16,8. or an ESI."
I may need his help some day.

You do not always get what you pay for, but you never get what you do not pay for.

Maybe endless winter should not start a fire by saying his two cents, a dumb statement about throwing the partner in the dumpster. Stay off the the thread if you can't offer serious information or help.

Come on - I knew that EndlessWinter was playing around.

It's like having a Linux guru say to toss Microsoft products. Each has its strengths depending on the purpose - but I certainly wouldn't expect a MS fan to say that about Linux or a Linux die-hard to say that about Microsoft.

If someone asked me how to replace a battery in a Chevy, I would tell them to scrap the whole car...
