I have a problem to remove programs from my computer - possibly bcause they startup when I startup windows. How can I establish which programs are loaded automatically when windows starts up.
Thanks

Go to start, run, then type msconfig. On the system configuration utility click the startup tab on the far right. Everything listed there is what is starting up. I recommend only antivirus and firewall loading up and nothing else.

Once you have done that, hit apply and close and restart the computer. A window will pop up saying system configuration utility has been used, just click the box not to show it again and close it.

Thanks you very much. My next problem is to establish which items are necessary. There are a lot that I could untick, but the following was difficult to establish their origen. Can you please give me some light on it.

sttray
communications_helper
devdetect
capp (symantec)
oscheck
ctfmon
launchlist2
lifeexp
qttask
SNM (spy no more)
SATARAID5

Thanks

Also on msn messenger, to stop it from starting up, open it up, go to options on it and uncheck the box that says startup with windows

You might also try downloading & running Process Explorer

It's much better than msconfig as it gives more details & it's free.
