I've logged into Meridian Mail after booting up and everything loads.

I get to the System Status and Maintenance screen and there is no <Activate System> softkey option/

The System Status says "Loading" and has been like that for hours.

Something I'm missing?

In LD 48: stat AML 09 > Is the AML enabled?

If not: Reboot the Mermail

Then: enl aml 09 acms >

Have a great day!

You may also want to disconnect your tape drive if not restoring from backup. Mermail can sometimes hang on the drive

AML is up - no tape drive connected -

Link is in service

when i check port status, they also say 'loading'

check the status of the agents on that card (TNs) see if it's enabled

or if it's a large system, check the loop and cards for the voice ports.

Okay, Disable the AML. Power Down MerMail. Wait 30 seconds. Re-power MerMail. Right after, Enable the AML using "enl aml xx acms. Wait 10 minutes. What do you get?
You don't have a tape drive? Do you have a SCSI terminator on the port? When is the last time you backed this thing up?

I disabled the AML, powered down Mermail overnight, brought it back up around noon and all is working well.

LOL - no tape drive - just put the Mermail in actually, so there's nothing to back up :) - still implementing and on the hunt for a tape drive -

are you saying that I can do a back-up via another method? (SCSI terminator)?

i was thinking I would make a copy of the SCSI Drive and keep that on hand -

obviously wouldn't be something done on a daily basis - but was thinking that if the drive died, I would be able to swap in my copy and update whatever I needed to -

Thoughts?

Make an Image of your working drive. Then Restore that Image to a new drive and install it into the MerMail. If it works, you have an Image on disk and a working backup for those times when you tell yourself, "man, I'm glad I took that old guys advise..." Then, get the fan, clear the smoke out of the room, and your good!

and I'm going to assume that there are limitations to the size/type of SCSI drive that I can use as a back up?

I could only hope that if I got a larger drive, that I'd have increased storage space, however, I suspect that's only wishful thinking.

thanks

Shawn

Tandberg SLR tape drives are the most common for MerMail. They can record up to 8GB's are are very slow, but they are very reliable for system backups. The Imation Magnus 2.5GB tapes are the most common for MerMail. I tried to use a SLR75
once, and it would not work. Be sure to get a cleaning tape and use it every six months.
Have a great Thanks Giving everyone!
