SQL2000 Connectivity on Win95 Client

I've installed sql2000 connectivity tools on a windows 95 machine which has sql 6.5 client utils installed. The sql server I'm trying to connect to has both sql 6.5 and sql 2000 running on it. When I connect to the sql2000 instance from the client (95) it always connects to the 6.5 database. How do I get it to connect to the 2000 server instead?

When you install 6.5 it has only a default instance, so to access the sql server you specify the server name only; but when you install sql2000 on a server that has another instance, either 2000 or 6.5-7, then it is installed as a named instance. So it depends on what you specified as the instance name during the sql2000 setup. In general you can connect using the following syntax or the server name[ servername\instance.]
Optionally you can create an alias for the sql2000 instance using the sql network library GUI tools found on the Start->Programs->Sql menu...

Thanks. I've already tried using those to no avail, ended up having to use an alias for the connection with named pipes.
