Has anyone had good/bad experience as of late with Spybot's version 1.3? I had low system resource issues, and I was searching around and it "may" be due to bugs in the Teatimer feature of this release. As I was reading different opinions on forums similar to this, it seems that version has quite a few bugs to work out. I was thinking of just sticking solely with Ad-Aware for a while. Any thoughts on that?

Sticking solely with any ONE spyware detection/removal tool is risky business. You'd be better advised to stick with SpyBot 1.2 until kinks get worked out of the new build...but, you should also be running AdAware and at least a third toll, like Bazooka or SpySweeper. None of the forementioned are so solid that they catch EVERYTHING.
Also, keeping tools such as CWShredder (latest update) and Kill2Me around are essential. Notwithstanding, the latest version of Hijack This! for manual sleuthing and removal.

Thanks, Carr.
Except for Kill2Me, I have and run all the above mentioned. Thanks to this and a few other sites like it, and so many tutorials, I'm usually able to look at my own HijackThis log and figure out what's bad. I wouldn't go so far as posting recommendations, though- lol.

I got rid of every trace of Spybot (all versions) before I downloaded/installed the "final bug-free" 1.3 on my last attempt. So you think I should find a 1.2 and put that back for now?

This is so frustrating. I will never go with a new release so soon again. My system resources hit so low, I couldn't run anything. I seem to remember the reverse not too long ago before Ad-Aware released 6.0....

Also, I'm only using the free version of Ad-Aware. You think I should go with the pro version?

TIA, and sorry to ask so much. You guys just all seem to be experts here!

Melissa

Thanks again, Carr. I'm home today, so I just d/l and installed from the link you gave.

Everything seems to be going fine

3838,
Actually, that link should go to the vollversion page, and just scroll down and click on the "downloaden!" link.

On the next screen, scroll down to the " Ja, ich habe den Hinweis gelesen und möchte nun downloaden." link.

All my two years of German back in HS got me was, "yes, I have blah, blah, blah" But it worked :)

3838,

It is right there under "Top 10 Downloads"

Thanks. I got it.

Yeah I was there but the overly exposed lady's picture prevented me from going further. I have had enough of problems - don't want to take any chances.

The only problem with 1.2 is you will not be able to download updates for it. I have had no problems with the new 3.1 and consider it more user friendly. If you have XP it makes a backup of the registry. I didn't realize there were bugs being worked out. I think having the latest 3.1 of Spybot and along with Adaware 6.0 will help solve lots of problems.

Hi... I've been using v 1.3 of Spybot on all my machines...my work runs Win2K SP4, my tower XP Pro SP1, and my notebook runs XP Home. The machines have 1Gig; 640Mb and 512Mb respectively. The program has worked flawlessly on all of them in conjunction with Adaware Plus V6.181. What Adaware may miss, Spybot cleans.

I had a coworker run into a problem with VX2 BetterInternet(6/14/04) Our tech team used Adaware to try and rid it (which it did a good job), yet running Spybot afterward found 58 problems.... 3 hijackers. I would say give it another try.

No problems at all. Back to running Ad-Aware 6 and the updateless Spyware 1.2.

Actually, I'm getting rid of this PC in a few days, so not worrying about this as much as reformatting and such. I'm giving it to a friend for his daughter, and she won't be online at all. So I'm going to wipe it clean, install Win98 and some stuff for her. He should be fine. Hopefully the machine will still work! [ponder]

Oh, and I'm robbing the NIC card-he has no need for it...

Thanks.

Try to post in Forum615 (Win95/98) if you have any probs when you Re-install....just trying to be supportful. I just happen to see your screenname when I jumped over to this forum for something else..

I use and find spybot 1.3 to work VERY well. I wouldn't just stick to one removal tool however because they don't all get everything. I have used spybot 1.3, adware 6.181, hijackthis, cwshredder, and VX2Finder to get rid of everything on some but more often then not using adware and spybot together works.
