We are running Win200 professional as a desktop with a Novell network. When we try to print, nothing seems to happen. When we look at the task list, spoolsv.exe is using resources between 8-12%. We then can't go into the printer folder to do anything. This is when trying to print to a network printer. It doesn't happen all of the time, but does it enough to where it's annoying. We can't shutdown the process either. Does anyone know what is causing this to happen and have a solution for this. Thanks for the help

Right click on the the "image name" under the processes tab in task manager. choose the debug option in the pop up menu. This will open Visual studio which will attempt to debug the SPOOLSV processes. You can then stop debugging and shut down visual studio and the SPOOLSV process itself will be gone and resources freed

Try to install SP 2, if you already installed it change the Startup option from Spoolsv.exe to manual. You have to enable it manually for printing, but after some shutdowns the problem fixed itself.
The only thing is, you have to open the printer menu everytime you start the service (spoolsv.exe).
