I am not very computer smart and I am not sure if I am even writing this in the right area?

BIG PROBLEM
I work for in a senior's home, we have 45 residents. five Spectralink phones and 3 transmitters are in the main builiding. We have nothing but problems with our spectralink system and companion phones(product number PTB410)
Problem number 1 - MCU went down twice. The first time the tech's weren't sure why the MCU fried. The second time was from a lighting storm in the summer. We continually had to reboot the system in between these two problems. Calls through the system range about 500 per month.
Now we have a seperate UPS for the MCU and seem to have problems with the companion hand sets. Alien language shows up, incoming and outgoing phone calls are cut out.

There is definate operator error invovled here too. I dropped my phone into a bucket of Acid. Died a quick death and phones have fallen into toilets as well.

The main problem is that we need something that is more relaible and fool proof than what we have. Spectralink phones aren't cheap to replace 700 -1000 per unit and at that rate we will have to reverted back to the string and can method. Has any one had similar problems or any solutions of suggestions for me? Your help would be appreciated greatly

to stop confusion before it starts. the PTB410 is a spectralink part number not a companion phone.

Beyond that you may want to look into the cost of a companion system (they are still out on the secondary market) I haven't heard of problems with them like you have been having with the spectralinks.

The spectralink is (as far as I know) the only replacement out there for the companion since nortel dropped the companion line.

Mind like a Steel trap - Once used forever clamped shut.

I WOULD MUCH RATHER HAVE SPECTRALINK ON MY SYSTEM THAN COMPANION PHONES. I'VE HAD A LOT LESS TROUBLE WITH THE PRODUCT, AND THERE SUPPORT IS GOOD. YOU DON'T NEED TO BE TRAINED ON THE PRODUCT

Spectralink has always had problems with the phones being dropped. They don't take it like other phones do.
Engenius makes good cordless phones, but you would have to use an analog adapter for each phone and use the link/flash key for features.

Put the specratlink phones in cases and the dropping problem is less likely to damage the phone. They are designed to break away from the battery to decrease the weight on impact. The MCU will hold the call for 1 minute while you fumble with the battery replacement :)

Ascom has wireless phones that will work with the Norstar. Digital integration, emulates a lot of the features of the M7310 deskphone. They can also integrate with nurse call systems.

We have Spectralink installed with Norstar and Magix across the country and have little to no issues with system compatability. As far as the phones go, they are not the most durable, but if you dropped a laptop or a glass of water on the floor, chances are about the same that you would need to replace the device..Stick with the Spectralink and consider a more secure case taht would keep the phones from being bounced around..

The secret of Joy in work is contained in one word- excellence- To know how to do something well is to enjoy it..

A new digital cordless is being released with Norstar 7.0 and BCM 3.7 in a few months. One of the new phones is a heavy duty model designed to take some abuse. They are not IP, so will probably be more reliable as far as dropping calls, etc.
