Please anybody who knows the solution of this problem,

I'm using window media player 10 and Windows xp service pack 2,there is no sound coming from my speakers but the music seems to play. I have checked everything and shows everything is okay.

I can hear music from the Headphones when I play CD but nothing from my speakers when I listen music from the websites or music stored in window media player and even when I play CD. Nothing has been muted everything is okay. I have bought new speakers but still I experience the same problem. I have already tried to reinstall my sound drivers and it says that they are working properly even I have tried to plug Headphones into sound jack but still no sound.

Currently I'm using VIA AC'97 ENHANCED AUDIO CONTROLLER (WDM) and onbord sound card (VIA - 3058 Ac97). But When I go to windows update it says to download VINYL AC'97 CODEC COMBO DRIVER (WDM) so after when I finish to install this driver it comes the bigger problem even the music won't play again and no sound. On this VINYL AC'97 CODEC COMBO DRIVER (WDM) IT SAYS THIS DEVICE CANNOT START (CODE 10). Also on windows media player it says as follow C00D11BA: Cannot play the file Error ID = 0xC00D11BA, Condition ID = 0x00000000

Please note that I have done everything that I have been Suggested and even sound troubleshooting but no answer. So I have decided to roll back driver to the one I used before and music plays but no sound.

I have check details in my BIOS and I have found the following details:

XP "update" AC 97 sound drivers don't work! Twice (every other year), I've tried them - always had to pull out the original mobo install disk and re-install. I finally "hid" them in Win update so the listing doesn't bug me. I have XP SP2 with Media Player 10. My AC 97 sound works fine. By the way, the headphone jack on the CD player is directly from the CD pre-amp, has nothing to do with computer audio. Put the original drivers from the mobo CD back in. Look at the back of the computer and tell us what the plugs say. There should be Mic, Line in, and Line out (you want "line out"). Some modems also have a speaker out (next to telco line jack, make sure you're not plugging into that one.

Hi micker377,
Thank you for your reply, I have checked the connection of the speakers to the computer shows that everything is in correct way. Even those speakers are in Line out (Sound jack). Also I have found as you said Mic, Line in, Line out are there at the back of Computer.
The thing is on putting back original drivers from the motherboards CD was difficult for me as I'm not sure which one in the following files I suppose to install them.
I have found the following files in motherboards CD:

Download and run "Everest Home" (free), it will tell you everything you want to know about your computer. It even has a section to tell you what mother board you have (revision number - serial number - bios revision).

MS-6787 is what you listed on your first post, that is the model of your mobo. Great mobo too!

Anyway, i think you have to run the 4 in 1 drivers again to install the sound drivers.
But first you want to go to device manager and uninstall the sound drivers from there, then reboot and install the via 4 in 1 drivers.

Hi MKJR
i am having the same exact problem you are having and i have to clue of how to fix it and my sound is really important for me so if by now u fixed your problem could you tell me how you did it? thanks and happy new 2005 to you too.

I am running winxp on a msi 6378 and have a sound problem also. Mine gets really distorted when using scroll on the mouse while playing music.Duron 1100,327mb ram media player 9 or 10(same).Any ideas? thanks

You have the via chipset on your mobo.
Have you tried running the via 4 in one driver set that I suggested?
I see its at the very bottom of the list of items on your motherboard cdrom.

With respect you mention Via 4 in 1 drivers several times in the above post! what have they got to do with audio?
Via 4 in 1's unlike Nvidia platform drivers do not contain audio drivers.

VIA Hyperion 4 in 1 driver includes four system drivers to improve the performance and maintain the stability of systems using VIA chipsets.
These four drivers are: VIA Registry (INF) Driver, VIA AGP VxD driver, VIA ATAPI Vendor Support Driver and VIA PCI IRQ Miniport Driver.

NO AUDIO!

I though the via 4 in 1 included audio, my mistake.

if you can try this:
put a PCI sound card in the computer and see if it works?
(test card should only cost about $9.00) or buy a nice card with all the bells and whistles.
Like any port in the computer. a sound card is prone to STATIC DISCHARGE damage. though as I read your post it may not be the case.
Onboard MB sound cards are a great idea. But, They suck when they fail.

I have to agree with micker377
either pay to have someone install the right drivers or find a computer geek to help.
either way you will find out if the onboard sound chip is dead or you have the wrong drivers.

Find :Vinyl AC'97 Codec Combo Driver (WDM): and your problems are over. Notice Combo in the description. Rock om.
