Here are a couple of purposes:
1. Hardware/Software inventory
2. Software distribution
In order to install the SMS client on a PC/Server you have to have the correct configuration on a couple of things:
1. Subnet should be defined in sites and services
2. Site boundary should be defined under your primary/secondary server
I have now started to deploy the client to my desktops but......
Now I see an error message in the SMS Component Status Log that "the Advanced Client cannot be installed because the client only supports Win 2000 or greater"
DO you have the SMS Client push installation setup configured, including the push account which would need local or domain admin rights on the workstations?
Found in the SMS console
site database | Site Hierarchy | <site code> | Site Settings | Client installation methods | CLient push Installation.
Be careful about pushing the client to domain controllers (dont if you can)
