Whats the whole purpose of the SMS Client, and why will it not install on any of my clients in my Site ?

Here are a couple of purposes:
1. Hardware/Software inventory
2. Software distribution

In order to install the SMS client on a PC/Server you have to have the correct configuration on a couple of things:
1. Subnet should be defined in sites and services
2. Site boundary should be defined under your primary/secondary server

I hope you find this post helpful.

Ok that makes sense.

I have now started to deploy the client to my desktops but......

Now I see an error message in the SMS Component Status Log that "the Advanced Client cannot be installed because the client only supports Win 2000 or greater"

All my clients are running Win XP SP2.

Any ideas ?

Thanks
Colin

I am right clicking on my collections and choosing install SMS Client.

I run through all the steps and I do not see anything happenning on the clients ? ?? ?

DO you have the SMS Client push installation setup configured, including the push account which would need local or domain admin rights on the workstations?

Found in the SMS console
site database | Site Hierarchy | <site code> | Site Settings | Client installation methods | CLient push Installation.

Be careful about pushing the client to domain controllers (dont if you can)

Yes I have the appropriate credentials listed in there.

I notice that I have several error messages in my Event Viewer about not having IIS Bits installed. Let me install that and see what happens.
