Hi, we are trying to set up a SIP trunk on S8300/G700 CM5 from external network, while the S8300/AES 4.2.2/CCE 4.0 are all in an internal network. On the Asterisk this is possible since you can use a second NIC. Is that possible on the Avaya? Is the SES server a solution? Any ideas?

Thanks

If you have a functioning Asterisk box you can set up an Avaya to * trunk by compiling h323 on the *. I have it working and can point you to some notes if you need them. Then you can set up outbound routing to the external SIP trunk via the *.

In order to do SIP on a 5.0 you need the SES and since 5.2 and beyond are including SIP in the upgrade process the SES doesn't seem like a good place to spend money.

We have this now using a Cisco Call Manager, passing traffic to the Avaya internally. The point is to avoid any in between connections and leave the Avaya to handle everything. The problem is that using one interface on the Avaya is not possible. Maybe an S8500 would do the job using a second interface?

There is no solution I know of that doesn't have an in between connection at your current release. Avaya SES is just an adjunct that would be performing the function you have your Call Manager already performing. Unless you like spending money I advise keeping it as is.

I haven't seen it in production so defer to those who have but even the Aura product with 'SIP at the core' as they are calling it looks to be a SIP server of some kind that sits between Communication Manager and the rest of the world. I would love to be educated on that as budget figures are starting to be calculated to bring our environment up from 4.X to 6.X next year.
