We have a mitel 3300 MXe controller with Release Level 5.0 SP2 PR2. At present we have mainly Mitel 5001, 5201, 5212 and 5304 IP handsets, plus a few other odd Mitel models, and about 80 remaining analogue ones, fax machines etc.

We are investigating the possibility of using a few non-mitel SIP sets in cases where a suitable Mitel model is not available for certain purposes.

As luck would have it, a contractor working on our site last year left behind a SIP 'phone, a Linksys SPA942, so I thought I'd try setting it up to see if I could get it to work with the 3300. I've found a few references to using SIP devices with the 3300, one actually for this model of 'phone, but all seem to be incomplete, and assume some existing knowledge. Can anybody provide me, or know where I can find, complete instructions for setting up a generic SIP 'phone on a Mitel 3300?

I have reset the 'phone to factory defaults and can connect to the HTTP server in it.

Before the upgrade to version 5 the 3300 used to list SIP device licences, of which we have none, but since the upgrade there seems to be no mention of these. Do SIP 'phones now work with the standard IP licence, as the Minet ones do? I know that the previous IP user and IP device licences have been merged into one licence.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Thank you.

I'm home now. I can look at the Mitel system remotely, but the 'phone is not plugged in at the moment, so I'll have to leave it until Monday.

I did read that thread before, but I'm still somewhat confused by the term 'SIP account'. Under 'Multiline IP Sets' I've added a new device, set the device type to 'Generic SIP Phone', put in an available spare number, 4910 and Interconnect Number 1. There is an option for a 'User PIN' which we normally leave blank with Minet 'phones. Do I need to put something in here? Where on the Mitel system do I set up this 'SIP Account'. I've no previous experience with SIP, other than some trunks, and these were largely set up by our provider.

I can see all of the options in the web interface of the 'phone, so I should be able to set this up on Monday, once I've got the Mitel end of things sorted out.

Best wishes.

Normally the PIN is the extension number you have configured 4910 in your case. Set up the SIP device capabilities form and use that for your phone. Set that in the user dvice and configuration form.

To be honest, the best way to do it is to follow the 'Program SIP phones' from the help file for the 3300 side.Just follow it through and note some stuff is optional.
