SIP configuration problems

Ok so here is my problem. I have a client that is getting SIP Trunks from their ISP. I have configured multiple SIP Trunks via cloud providers and they have always been very helpful with the set up through having config instructions they have tested on Avaya or just going through the settings to make sure both sides match up. The problem I am having is that the ISP that I am working with is not being helpful at all. They just turned up the SIP trunks and when they don't work they are blaming the phone system. I am trying to have them go through the settings with me to determine that we line up correctly but they don't seem interested in helping.

My question is, am I off base with thinking the ISP should be more help with the settings for the SIP line config or is this how things normally work?

Thanks in advanced!

My experience is they normally try to help - does not mean resolve. I typically caveat SIP implementations with my customers by saying "approved SIP trunk provider" as I have had problems in the past with different providers. I generally will only recommend providers that have interop white papers for the IPO. Last, I would not EXPECT a SP to help, but they should if they want to sell more of their SIP service.

If registered you need username, password, tel number(s), URL or IP to use and amount of channels/calls. That's minimum to get started, you can usually work the rest out from there.
If IP authenticated then just the URL/IP, tel number(s) and amount of channels/calls from them and the IP you're using sending to them should be enough to get started :)

Hi Knuty24,

We run our own SBC's and when an Off-Net customer is to connect in we give them the basic details and it's up to them to program. However we always try to help get the service running.

What's the actual issue you're experiencing? If the calls are failing then they should be able to provide the SIP reason code for the failure. If you can get an SSA trace on the trunks then that may help find the reason.

Happy to try to help if you can give us a bit of info. :)

Thanks for the responses. I agree with @telfire that going with a solution that has iterop white papers with Avaya may be the best way to go. Although this is our local ISP and would be nice to get this working.

@IPOLackey here is the trace from the SIP line that I get.
4/6/16 8:30:09 AM-251ms Line = 17, Channel = 1, SIP Message = Response, Direction = From Switch, From = 7012809040@a2.midcovoice.com, To = 7579876@192.168.13.10, Response = 100 Trying
4/6/16 8:30:09 AM-253ms Line = 17, Channel = 1, SIP Message = Response, Direction = From Switch, From = 7012809040@a2.midcovoice.com, To = 7579876@192.168.13.10, Response = 404 Not Found
4/6/16 8:30:09 AM-264ms Line = 17, Channel = 1, SIP Message = Ack, Direction = To Switch, From = 7012809040@a2.midcovoice.com, To = 7579876@192.168.13.10

What happens is when I call in channel one of the SIP line with reset the time in idle state to 00:00:00 and I get an error that the number cannot be completed as dialed.

Thanks!

how is this being authenticated? name number ip address

It is being authenticated by IP address. There is no SIP Registration needed.

I imagine you are not sending the correct number/format they expect and/or you are sending the internal address in the SIP messages. monitor will tell better than a snippet of SSA :)

Looks like the provider expects you to dial 10 digits. Perhaps with a 1 prefix. Some SIP providers expect you to dial in E.164 format.

That's an inbound call. It's not matching your ICR.
Check the Line ID for the ICR of 7579876.

I thank everyone for their help so far. All it turned out to be was bad equipment on the ISP side. Once they replaced it all was good for inbound calling. Although I am still having problems with outbound calling. Here is what is set up:

Short Code:
Code: 8N;
Feature: Dial
Tele #: N"@_Sip_IP"
Line ID: 100 (which is set up in sip URI as outgoing id)

Here is the monitor trace that I get when I try calling out. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

You don't need the @SIP bit after the N anymore. Also I don't think you have line gp 100 at all, as the system can't find it. SIP can be a black art so it's usually quicker to post your config (with sensitive info changed) :)
