Ok from the beginning.

I have setup an extension and physical phone, the phone will be permanently set to forward to a hunt group.

The number will be rung by staff and will forward to the hunt group, this is working fine, however, it is not meeting the requirements defined in the original project.

When you forward a normal handset to another handset, it will display Line>$Extn-name when someone calls and it is forwarded, however the current setup to a hunt group shows the phone number that is incoming instead and we want to same functionality as a single handset where it will show the extn name or hunt group name the call is being forwarded from.

Please help.

I think there is a better way. Why forward a phone to a hunt group? Instead of transferring the call to the phone, transfer it directly to the hunt group. If a line rings directly on the phone, have it ring directly to the hunt group. If its a different name you want to see, then set up a new hunt group with a new name.

Just run this by me because I'm confused at how I can get the Hunt group to display on screen when it calls.

You are saying just by assigning the line that is currently on the handset to the hunt group that the name of the hunt group (say, name1) will appear on a members phone screen? That's not how it seems to work for the others I've set up in the past, so I seem to have missed a step. This is why I was using a phone to forward to the hunt group so it would take that line>name1 function to a handset when an external call came in.
