Hi,

I have a script that will shut down all our computers in the college at a certain time. I run it from a server using task scheduler.it shuts down computers if their name is in a text file. The problem is that when I run the file it fails on a lot of computers (access denied). Through trial and error I have found out that if I remove the check box for simple file sharing in folder options the script shuts down the remote computer fine. Now, the problem is that when the computer reboots simple file sharing is back on and nobody can stop this from happening. Is it possible to allow my server to connect to these computers even if simple file sharing is on? some exception of some kind. The xp firewall is off.

Thanks in advance

dzon - are you sorted then?

Is this a workgroup (as domain membership turn off simplified sharing by default)?

Hi Wolluf,

Not sorted yet but still got several things to try from the documentation. We are on a Netware 6.5 network so workstations are in a workgroup.

Cheers,

Dzon

This registry entry should keep simple file sharing off :

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa]
"forceguest"=dword:00000000

It's the equivilant to the GPO setting

Network access : Sharing and security model - users authenticate as themself

At least - this is what I've come to believe - I can't sware my life on it but I use one of these 2 methods usually to make sure SFS is off (thanks for turning it on by default for a PRO (not HOME) package MS...)

Thanks for the registry setting!

No probs. Remember to execute the reg file with the /s switch to keep it silent on the machine unles you're there doing it yourself
