Hello everyone I am using XP professional and having a problem with the shut down menu. Shut down appears on the start menu and when you click shut down the second menu comes up, but the problem is after the menu comes up the only thing there is log off. There are no local policies set on the machine nor domain wide policies set. Any ideas????

Are you part of a network that the domain admin(s) have disabled shutting down one's workstation? (I am...)

We checked that on the domain server and it was disabled so that is not the issue :(. I have racked my brain on this even the administrator of the computer cannot shut down but yet the domain admins can (that is what made me think to check that policy).

If you have checked the Group Policy as it applies to the local machine and are sure no setting there is the cause you can try this -

How To Reset Security Settings Back to the Defaults

Do you have anything like this in the Registry?

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\explorer

The registry entries are DWORD values. Registry Value: "NoClose". A value of 1 is enabled, and a value of 0 is disabled.

Thank you very very much that fixed my problem!!!!! You guys are great.
