Setting up an SV9100 from scratch - need some advice

Hello all,
I grew up on ICS2400 and now manage an SV8500. I also got my feet wet on the 2000 family. Now I got this SV9100. I'm using web-pro to program it and I'd like to get some help just to speed up the programming.

I want 15 stations (DT730 IP phones) to work with 4-digit station numbers and SIP trunking to a provider. I got the proper licenses in the system.

So I got as far as assigning an IP address to the CPU so I can now manage the thing across my company network. Looks like I also programmed a couple of station numbers (I'm just not sure I did all the setups for a station to work...). I connected an DT700 phopne to the network and pointed it to the CPU address of the system. Result: "Sip Server not found". Further digging and I see I need to assigne an IP address

But then what's the "IPL IP address" should be? What is IPL to begin with? Is the IP address supposed to be change to my company networking scheme, or is it some internal address should be left alone at 10.1.10.31?

Then somewhere (I forgot where) I found another place where I could set an IP address and I think this was for the VOIP port on the system. So I also put that onto my company network, and connected the VOIP port to the company network. The DT700 was then set to register with that address, but still "SIP Server not Found".

SO that's where I stand right now.
 
It sounds like you're most of the way there.

The IPLA address is the address of the VoIP "add on" card that snapped on the CPU and gave you the VoIP NIC port.

One thing that used to trip me up was not changing the DRS Port on the DT730 from 5060 to 5080 (5080 is the default for the SV9100).
 
Still "SIP Server Not Found"

I've basically set the following:
Date/Time, location.

10-12: IP Address 192.168.1.10
SM: 255.255.255.0
GW: 192.168.1.1
NAPT Router IP (What is this?) 0.0.0.0
IPL IP Address 10.1.10.131 (I can't seem to change it - it always gives error when I change it)
IP Subnet: 255.255.255.0
DNS Primary: 8.8.8.8
DNS Sec: 8.8.4.4
DNS Port: 53
IPL NIC Port Setting: MDI

10-46: I didn't change anything, but I also don't know what Multicast IP address is...

I put a DT730 on this network with proper IP configuration, set the DRS port to 5080, and it just can't find a SIP server...

What am I missing?
 
The 9100 requires a re-set when you change any IP address. Not sure why you are getting an error when you try to change the IPL address???

After the DT730 goes through it's hoochie koo and stops at "SIP Server Not Found", try pressing the "Help" button for a couple of seconds. Option 3 will allow you to try to ping the IPL address.
 
Thank you for the suggestion, however, it didn't fill in the blank, and I've seen this article in my efforts to try to get going. I followed it but no go.
 
Are you sure you have the IPLE? It is a daughterboard on the 9100. You also have to manually assign licenses for it:
What error do you get when you try to change the IPL IP address? Are you using DHCP on the 9100 or external? I recommend using DHCP on the 9100 and you need to configure that and change a few things to match your network design. Also you can only have one default gateway and if using voip it needs to be on your voip network. 84-26 needs an avilable IP on the voice network as well.

I feel your pain. It took me a while to get a hang of these things coming from a 2000 background.. Are you programming through phone, webpro or pcpro?

The biggest pain is that by mistake, my vendor left out the manuals from the box when they shipped me the system. So I'm really driving blind here. Those manuals were shipped and should be here in a few days, but when you have a deadline to make, it's not easy to wait around.

To answer your questions:
I'm not sure I have an IPLE, considering I don't even know what it is. It just showed up in the menus (I'm using web pro to configure the system), so I figured it needs a proper IP address. Besides the GCD-CP10 board, I only have a GCD-4LCF daughterboard, so most likely I don't have an IPLE card. The error message on web-pro, when I try to give it a proper IP address is "There were errors when trying to apply changes".

You referenced the the ntac document regarding the licensing, however, it requires a logon, which unfortunately, I don't have. Could you please copy it or quote it for me?

I currently have a test setup:
Dumb network switch, connecting to the CPU board's ethernet port, and its voip port (so I have two cables going from the network switch to the SV9100). I have a static IP address assigned to the CPU with a bogus gateway address made up, and also a static IP address assigned to IPL-DSP (84-26), which is only pingable if I have the voip port connected to the switch, so I assume that this IS the voip IP address.
I also have a DT730 phone with static IP address set up (and the same gateway as the CPU and the voip port), and I have the SIP server IP address pointing to the phone system's VOIP port IP address. While it's pingable from the phone, the phone still says "SIP Server not found". On the phone, I changed the SIP server's port to 5080, with still no improvement.

So I'm not even at square 0... So just to get started, here is what I'd like to clarify:

Where do I set the Voip Port's IP address? Is that 84-26?
Is that what's considered the DRS address or that's something else and that address needs to be configured somewhere else?
Do I point the phone to what's set in 84-26?

I think, if these are clarified and set correctly, I can get the phone to a point where it finally FINDS the SIP server and ask for username and password.

Then I can start worrying about creating stations and set up trunking...

Our VoIP terminals receive a busy and then hang up when going off hook to make or answer calls. All of our SV9100 phones appear to be registered and up. We also have a 2nd IP Address assigned in program 84-26. Is there any other program required to allow IP Terminals and other VoIP conversations to complete calls with two way audio?

VoIP resource licenses must be applied to the CPU in program 10-54-01 since these licenses must be applied to the CPU to be recognized. This is also used in Netlink systems where VoIP resources can be assigned as needed to remote systems.

The example below shows the licensing of 256 VoIP Channels, (license feature code 5103).

The maximum quantity per index is 255; this is why two program indexes are used below:

Let me see if I can dig up and share the networking guide, it may help. Regular manuals will be of limited use.

You will also want pcpro to get this done right. Without pcpro you can only use plug-and-play in 10-46 which (assuming you have DHCP and network configured good) will just assign phones extension in order from lowest to highest port in 11. You won't be able to program names, buttons, forwarding, etc until you plug in all phones. With PcPro you can configure everything off line and then upload a working config.

And 84-26 is not where you point to. 84-26 just needs to be an extra unused address in the voice network like 10.1.10.132 in your case. Trying to attach PcPro to this post for you..

Another tip, forget about auto configuration. Think about and choose either plug and play if you don't have a lot of phones and can plug them all in before deployment or manual config if you want to preconfigure login/passwords for stations and then go deploy phones and dial in extensions as you place them.

Thank you for the links you sent me!

I got the first phone working. Here is what was wrong:

Apparently you can't have the CPU and the IPL on the same network segment. I didn't know that, so the first thing I did was set my CPU address to match my company network, and then I could never put the IPL on the same network. It was 10.1.10.131 and I always got an error when I was trying to change that.
For some reason, I'm still unable to change that address, so I put my test phone as 10.1.10.10, and pointed it to 10.1.10.131, and voila! It came up with an extension and I got dial tone too.

So now I just need to figure out why I can't change the IPL IP address in 10-12.
As a test, I gave the CPU 192.168.5.5, and gave the IPL 192.168.1.4 (note the different network segments). When I clicked apply, I didn't get an error message any more. Then I initialized the system, and... the address changes didn't take effect. The IPL still shows 10.1.10.131.

Why is that?
 
That is true. Check the subnets. I think by default they use /16 for some reason and that would explain it. Assuming you configure two different /24 networks you should be fine. You might need to save one, reset and then set the other, reset. Also know that NTAC will tell you to not use the management port at all when using voip and it is true you don't really need it since you can admin via the voip port. They say to make it 0.0.0.0

In reality, you can use it, you just can't have a default gateway for it. So in you example if you gave CPU 192.168.5.5/24 and IPL 192.168.1.4/24 it would be fine, but you could only have a default gateway on the 192.168.1.0/24 network. I have a working example like this where the network admin could not figure out a way to route ebtwen the voice and data VLANs so we were forced to use the CPU port for management and can only reach it by remote desktop to a machine on the data VLAN..

You made me think of another little tidbit I learned from experience recently. Internal paging through the IP phones will not work unless you set a default gateway on the IP phones. Normally I would just let 9100 serve the IPL IP as default gateway. Even if you don;t have or need a default gateway, you have to put it in the phone for the internal paging to work..
