I am fairly new to IP Office and have been getting to grips with the system for the last 6 months. I cannot afford the Avaya course so I was hoping someone could help with the basics of setting up a h323 extension with a 9620 handset. This is also the first time I have set up an ip handset so any detailed instructions would be appreciated.

Currently I have an Avaya control unit, with an IP endpoint licence and a 9620 in front of me. The system is connected to a netgear router and the system has been placed on the network.

The 9620 currently says press * to program but if I connect it to the router it says waiting for LLDP.

Any help will be sincerely appreciated. Thanks in advance,

Like any other IP device it needs an IP address.
But i am not going to explain this as you will need to know the basics for IP telephony and then i am still typing tonight.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

Please can you point me in the right direction...someone must have a spare 5 mins to just get me started...im a very fast learner and I have set up 1608's before come to think of it just not 9620 using h323

Ok so I have been reading the Avaya h323 installation guide and am getting to grips with the DHCP settings. I do not know anything about there existing dhcp set up so I was just going to use the ip office as the dhcp server. Is this likely to cause any issues if they already have a dhcp server on site??

Don't have 2 dhcp servers on same network

Use the customer dhcp and go into phone settings
*craft#
Scroll to addr
Change the call server to ipo LAN address
Change http to ipo http address 192.168.42.1 default address for ipo
Save

When phone reboots it will look to the call server address first to get to the ipo
Then it will try to look the upgrade files from the http server on the ipo.

Good luck

Llpd means it can't find the call server IP address

MUTE + 2 + 7 + 2 + 3 + 8 + # (MUTE + CRAFT + hash/pound key)
then go and configure the IP ADDRESS, Mask, gateway and router/PBX's IP Address, save and reboot. eventually, it is desired to put the http server IP Address too (the PBX's IP Address) in order to have the latest and greatest firmware.
If you still cannot configure it, let me know and I will help you! ;)

Thanks Snowman, the IPO is on their network on 192.168.64.10 so should I not change the heep address to the default ip but this one instead?

Thanks Anonymous just seen your reply, I am leaving to go to site shortly to give this a try...fingers are crossed. I believe I also need to open some ports on the router to make this work is that correct?

Waiting for LLDP is still coming up on the handset. I have tried to enter the craft code above, the handset then restarts and it still says waiting for LLDP. The phone systems DHCP mode is currently set to disabled, should I change this and if so what to?

reboot the set. When you see * to program press * then follow what you were told above.

Waiting for LLDP is your set trying to understand what it is. It does not see the call server on your network

I have done this but it still says waiting for lldp. I changed the dhcp settings on the ip office from disabled to server to see if that would help but still it's the same. The handset is plugged into the power brick and then the other socket then goes directly into the HP switch. I changed this to the router and still the same, should I connect the power brick directly to the ip office??

LLDP shows up because it does not get any DHCP settings.
Contact the people who do control the DHCP server and the switch.
Tell them to add option 242 with L2Q=1,L2QVLAN=vlan id assigned for voice and ask them to setup the voice vlan ports.
Also ask them to add option 242 for in the voice vlan range.
Now let them add MCIPADD=192.168.64.10, MCPORT=1719, HTTPSRVR=192.168.64.10
The IPO should be on a untagged port voice vlan port.
The phones shoud be on a tagged voice vlan port.

BAZINGA!

The guys that look after the switch said that they do not use a DHCP server as such so it will just be run via the router.

After doing some research last night I believe there is away that we can set up the IP office so that it is the DHCP server purely for the IP phones is this correct? And if so which DHCP option should I choose?

Thanks in advance,

O boy, a company using a router as DHCP server.
The problem why the phones do not get an IP address is because the phone uses option 242.
I do not know any router that can do option 242.

So would it be possible to use the IP Office for this?

You can try it, like this:

DHCP%202.PNG

If I understood correctly, the IPO and 96x0 phone are in the same network. If this is the case, set an IP address for the phone (manually) and try to ping from SSA the 96x0 phone. Do you have echo/ping reply? If yes, then the phone does not have the right IP address for the call server.

Also, look in Monitor tool if you see http messages (phone should request 96xxupgrade.txt and 46xxsettings.txt files). In order to see http messages go to Filters menu, select trace options (or press Ctrl + C), go to Services tab and select/enable HTTP.

Let us know the outcome.

>I do not know any router that can do option 242.

Cisco definitely will

Take Care

Matt
I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

Ok I have now got the phone working using advanced DHCP settings on the network. All files are now updating and the phone has an ip address on the network. I ticked on auto create extension and it has given the handset a ridiculously long extension number which is annoying, please let me know if theres any easy way to change this?

More importantly though, what do I now have to do to enable this handset so that the handset can be used externally as an IP VoIP handset? P.s there is no router to router VPN in place.
