Good day everyone,
I have users at a remote office that connect to a terminal server.(Win Server2003) When they connect the default printer is set to Microsoft document Image Writer, it is not default to the clients main printer like it is supposed to.
I have changed it in Outlook, in printers and faxes and downloaded various tools to set default printers, but everytime they log off and log back on the default is set back to Document Image Writer.
Is there any way to set the default printer permanently without using a logon script to map it during log on?
If I was better at writing scripts I would just do that but my expertise lies in other areas.

Any help would really be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,

Are you using GPO's yet "group policy objects" ?

If you like you can set the default printer in the terminal services manager. Go into control panel and select terminal services configuration click on the default server and change as required.

On the server make sure that the printer is set to default.

Are you not using a logon script at all ?

The printers that need to be set as the default are all local printers, there is no server in the remote office and I can not see the printer that they need as default from the terminal server so group policy will not work fro me.
There is a logon script on the main server but it is just a default Small Business Server logon script, I do not have one set up for logons to the terminal server.

So they are just using a remote desktop "RDP" to connect to the terminal services correct ?

If yes please make sure in the options tab of the RDP that the connect local printers box is checked off, as long as that is checked off and there are drivers on the server for the specific printer then it will work.

Are you able to check the terminal services configuration on the server to determine if the use client printers box is checked off. ?

Yes, they are using RDP to connect, and yes the connect client printers is checked. The printers are all created OK it is just not setting the default properly.
The TS configuration on the server is set to use client printers as well.
As long as theyset the default when they log on to the TS server they sre fine for that session, but when they log off and log back on they have to set the default printer again, not a great big deal, but it does make for cranky users.
